RIP to an absolute warrior, he was never the greatest but for sheer entertainment you really couldn’t beat a Hitman fight, without wanting to speculate I know he’s had struggles with mental health for years, just goes to show no matter who you are that black dog is never too far away

Gutted, a real hero of mine both for his fights in the ring and out of it too.

RIP and thanks for the memories and the openness on your issues

Either way he definitely left a legacy and achieved his goals. A really humble guy too, which can't be said for most boxers.

I must admit when I read that he was going to have an exhibition match I did wonder if he was still struggling with being out of the ring.

Appreciate we're still at the speculation stage. I'm guessing there are links with depression and brain trauma, the latter being somthing that all pro boxers must surely have.

Probably a discussion to be had but along with Frank Bruno probably Britains all time most popular boxer.

I think you could see from his personality even during his career that he was going to struggle without the structure boxing gave him in life and sadly it came to pass.

Not just boxing but a lot of professional athletes have issues after retirement due to the fact that while having to train etc. their lives were so regimented and then all of a sudden can do whatever they want is a massive shift, a lot of people who come out of the forces are the same, huge voids in their lives that they aren’t sure how to fill

Yeah, also the buzz he must have got when walking to the ring in a big fight must have been impossible to replicate. I was wondering whether there was something physical at play, serious damage to the brain can change personality and thought processes.
