Brussels for the weekend

Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
For nothing more than cross another country to visit off the list. I am heading there in January, 3 nights, £350 inc flight so I thought why not.

Now the most important thing, where to eat...anyone recommend some nice places? I generally treat myself to 1 nice meal in every country. What do you guys recommend?

And if you have any lunch places in Bruge, that would be great too, I hear that is pretty, might do a day trip there.

Do you want to eat Belgian food?

It's kind of **** in the same way that traditional English food is considered to be ****, but that's half the fun.

I did go to a couple of traditional places whilst I was there that I could dig the names out for.

Obviously if you want international food, that's pretty easy since every European nationality is well represented and catered for.

Was there with locals so we got there before the rush, queue was 20 deep by the time we left.

Had the stoemp and the lapin in kriek, both very good and a bit different to what you'd get elsewhere

Stoemp looks like Bangers and mash and Lapin is rabbit ?

If it's anything like the photo, I think I will have the ribs! Going to mark it on my map now. Did you have to make a reservation?

Pretty much, yeah. I don't think they do reservations, but could be wrong.

It's a funny thing in that I can imagine a lot of people would say don't go, there's plenty of places that do great food from all around the globe, but I quite like having something that's vaguely local to where I'm visiting.

And I guess as Brits, Belgian food doesn't feel a million miles away from what we've grown up with

Oh, what time did you go? so I'd remember not to go in rush hour.
 
Either go for some moule frittes or there is a place called ribs and beer in Bruges which was pretty awesome

It's far from traditional Belgian food, but when I'm over there for work I always head to Bovis for a steak. It's a couple of minutes walk from Zaventem train station so very close to the Airport.

Their bordelaise sauce is to die for.
 
If you want a similar Brugge experience without the crowds, Gent is also worth a visit. To throw even more complications into a three night trip, Antwerpen is also well worth a visit.

Lunch around Brugge just stay away from around the Belfort as they'll take you for a ride.

Brussel itself I hate passionately and will say no more. :).

I am not really going to Brussel's to see Brussel's, it's more to tick off another country off my list. Brussel's just have cheap flights and access, easier than other Belgium cities when i checked. It's only like 3nights so will do day trips to Brugge and Gent easy enough.

Take some photos, eat some waffles and steak and come home.

Gent lovely place and less busy than Brugge , you missed "BEER"off your list.
 
I did not go myself, but my family has just got back from a full week in Brussels.
They really liked the street food in particular, which they said was excellent. Also amazing waffles and chocolate shops.
Sorry i cant be more specific.

People there described as incredibly dry and not chatty / friendly at all.

I arrive at like 9am on Friday, probably going to drop my things at the hotel then go straight to Bruge for Friday, Gent on Saturday, and could go to Antwerp on Sunday. Just spend the evenings of each day in Brussels.

I also have Monday morning free anyway, flight is not until like 3pm. If I get up at 6am I can have like 5-6hrs in the city.

Do not fly into Charleroi (Ryanair) long way out and about 150 euro each way in a taxi
