VAR working as intended

What? Admittedly I've only seen 3 minute highlights of the game but unless Salah's penalty was saved and Frimpong scored the rebound then what's the issue here?

Couldn't you apply that to most goals, there's usually a mistake somewhere. It's not just the system, but I don't think it's being blamed unfairly either - it's clearly not working.
So what do we change it to? Why will that be any better? Hiring a manager for a system and then demanding he coach something he hasn't coached is just mind bogglingly stupid. If they've decided this isn't what they want then sack him and hire someone that plays something different. But it makes them look like complete idiots.

sssh, dont tell them the rules, its funny watching them froth about the 'big 6 bias' :D

If he's a good manager then surely he can coach other systems too? Just because he's decided, with his very limited experience, that 343 is his favourite system, why not try something else if you're going to get sacked?

We're in that familiar situation where the writing is on the wall, I fear...

Not every manager changes systems and it's not like he's only played one variety of 3-4-3. We played completely different with say Bruno and Garnacho than we do with Mount and Mbeumo.
Because this is what he knows best? When are we going to teach a completely new system to the team? What makes you think they'll learn that one any better? Who is deciding it? Wilcox? Ratcliffe?

You didn't answer btw, what system should we be playing?

Probably 433 or 4231. What would you do then in the current situation? I’d be interested in your views as you’re generally more of an optimist. You think we’re just a bit unlucky and things will suddenly click?

433 just isn't an option this season, we don't have enough CM's to play it. What do we do about our excess of CB's too? This is the problem with changing systems so often, squads just aren't that flexible. We also really only have Cunha who could play left wing, and then Amad would be benched? It's not ideal. 4231 has the same problems as our current system, we have no players that can play as an effective double pivot.

Honestly I haven't a clue. What I do know (just like I knew 12 months ago) is that changing managers won't fix this. I think going into the season with this set of central midfielders was madness. If it's true that Amorim wanted a CM but Wilcox and Ratcliffe(?!?) wanted a new striker instead that is madness and I understand his anger. The goalkeeper situation is another screwup that should have been fixed a month ago, not 4 games into the season. We knew our opening fixtures were very tough and I think we need to give him at least a few months with the new signings to see what has changed.

Yep hands up didn’t know that, been on the wrong side of a defender’s encroachment, thought ir was the same for an attacker

Danny Murphy view aligns with @Shamikebab
Isn't that saying the same (very similar) thing, the players aren't suited to the system? Fernandez isn't a midfielder?

If he doesn't have the players for this system then something needs to change because we're not winning games. Short of changing the entire squad isn't a formation/tactic change easier?

We know by now Amorim won't change his formation but he is bringing a lot of his problems on himself by picking the wrong players in the wrong position within it.

I still think Fernandes as a number 10, with two holding midfielders behind him, is one of the best in the world but it seems unlikely he will get the chance to show it at United.

If United continue to play the same personnel in the same system - including Fernandes in central midfield, a role he has not played often enough to understand it - then the same things we are seeing are probably going to keep happening.

I would play Ugarte and Mainoo in the middle and play Bruno as a 10 while Cunha and Mount are injured. I said it before, shoe horning Bruno in midfield will be Amorims undoing.

Also wtf did Amorim take Yoro off for instead of Shaw, I have no idea.

I don't think just because we have an excess of CB's we should play 3 of them. As referenced above, playing Bruno in a midfield two isn't going to work here, so the entire system falls apart. Then there's the fact that our wingbacks aren't good enough. CM is a weak point regardless, but Amorim is choosing to leave our players outnumbered there due to the formation, and that's on him. CB's stepping into midfield isn't working.

A new manager won't fix all of these issues but we need a pragmatist who knows tactics inside out and Amorim seems extremely limited. Worryingly so.

I'm fine with results being erratic if there's an upward trajectory in terms of performances, but there isn't. We were playing like a team facing relegation last season, and so far it looks the same this season.

Are players allowed in the box now?
Yes. The following sets out when an attacker is considered to encroach:

If, before the ball is in play, one of the following occurs:

a team-mate of the player taking the penalty kick is penalised for encroachment only if:

the encroachment clearly impacted on the goalkeeper; or
the encroaching player plays the ball or challenges an opponent for the ball and then scores, attempts to score or creates a goal-scoring opportunity

Predictable response to the Liverpool game yesterday from opposition fans. Not really sure how there can be so much room for griping given that Burnley had no interest in playing football. I've actually seen people complaining about the penalty and even implying it was soft. It was one of the most obvious penalties you will ever see.

Will be fortunate if McAllister can maintain his selection for the rest of the week, given the tackle in the first half.

Exactly. Burnley set out to get a 0–0 draw and almost succeeded. But when you invite that much pressure towards the end of the game against the league champions, it only takes one chance or mistake and the latter is far more likely when you're under pressure.

Liverpool have had some terrible decisions go against them in recent seasons so to say "they always get jammy" is hilarious. Although the "VAR table" isn't completely objective, it does a good job of showing who has benefited the most.
