I have just installed the free version of Proton VPN and was just wondering is it safe to leave turned on and forget about it rather than turning it on just when I need it... Basically will I have problems with any websites and/or will my isp get annoyed with me using VPN as atm Im connected somewhere is the US.

Your ISP won’t care.

It should be fine on the most part. You may find frequently needing to do captchas or being blocked from things like iPlayer though.

Some online games you might be connected to the wrong region or unable to connect to them if you do anything like that.

You may find that some sites redirect you to the US version.

I do have mine connected all the time but my provider supports split tunneling so I can control what goes through VPN and what doesn't.

No, only when required otherwise it can mess up your routing / where services think your located for log in etc.

I keep mine on most of the time however if i am searching for pricing on things it will use the localised version of currency to the country you are connected to.

It will more than likely throttle your speed to some extent. Perhaps not a problem for normal day to day stuff, but might be an issue when trying to download GTA 6.

i dont use proton but another provider. They give you a app and a browser plugin, so i can choose to use client side vpn for all traffic from my pc, or i can enable the browser plugin which means just that browser session. either way i leave them on off as needed make no difference except as mentioned above
