I loved Knightmare growing up. I really enjoyed the one off episode they did as well. It's a shame it never got rebooted.

This was a classic but the BBC, in a haphazard way, got there first with The Adventure Game. Bonkers with a clown who only spoke backwards, talking plants and bewildered children who phoned in to give the contestants hints.

I checked on Wiki and it ran from 1980 to 1986, so it ended right before Knightmare started. The article then goes to say that it was considered as a forerunner to the Crystal Maze. I agree though ^^ that Knightmare sprung to my mind first albeit in a space age setting.
