I just don't have the time to build another PC at the min with one thing and another, my current PC is telling me that it doesn't meet the requirements for windows 11, to be honest it's about time i upgraded it anyway.

Can you help me pick a PC from overclockers that's ready to go out of the box, i've lost touch with the latest hartdware so you'll know what's the latest versions of everything better than i will. Basically speed is my main requirement and future proofing it the best you can, i don't really game, i watch a lot of online streaming of video content, watch TV through the PC in my bedroom, web browsing plus i do quite a bit of photoshop editing, i also listen to quite a bit of music through the pc as ive already got a PC sound setup in place. Just basically that will be blindingly fast loading web pages, something that will be quick and smooth for photoshop editing and something thaty will allow me to watch TV and video content thriugh the PC and again it won't struggle, i prefer a black aor gun metal colour case, really appreciate it. The budget, i'd say from £700 - £1500, future proofing myself and the speed of it is the main requirements, thanks again

Think it will be useful to post up what your current specs are so people can guage what improvement you will feel.

Also what output from the PC do you need to connect to your current sound set up? I only ask because of it's optical this is often missing from many new PC's.

I've added the spec of my current PC above, the sound system and speakers connects via optical.

I've gone 9700x with a 16gb 5060ti plenty of vram if you utilise GPU acceleration but this can be changed if overkill. 64gb DDR5 but options can be adjusted.

I'm liking that Micky, nice choice of case too, really appreciate you doing that.

Your welcome.

I added a 2 tb m2 but you could get 2 x 1tb m2 and have one as a scratch disk/ storage drive , which can also speed up working times .

There are lots of options and you mentioned optical out for your speakers so check the motherboard specs, you can give Overclockers a call and they will accommodate changes to the build to suit your needs .

Micky, i've placed the order on your exact build. The only thing i've changed is the case, i've gone fopr the Lian Li O11 Vision Compact in Black, it will be around 2 weeks for the build and delivery time.

The case is the one below

That motherboard doesn't have spdif, are you aware of that?

From what I can see in the configurator, the Tomahawk is £5 more and this does have spdif.

Hi Tetras, yeh i was aware of that. I've not built a PC for a fair while so i've lost track of the latest hardware hence when Micky kindly put a build up i went with that, my plan was to get an SPDIF adapter of some kind. When you mention the Tomahawk motherboard, is that as good in spec as the one i've ordered just with SPDIF added ? Do you have a link to it.

My memory of the last gen boards is fuzzy, but I believe the B650 Tomahawk was one of the higher spec boards and was not cheap (at the time). The main disadvantage versus the TUF B650-Plus is that it lacks a PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slot.

Oddly, the B650-Plus Prime (which is usually lower spec than the TUF), does have rear SPDIF.

So would you stay with this motherboard, is it more recent than the Tomahawk, i'm sure their is an adapter to plug and optical spdif into and then into one of the connections on the back.

This used to be a very common feature. I have an old (10 years?) Asus board with an internal spdif header, but I can see no mention of this in the TUF's manual.

Not really, the B650-Plus TUF and B650 Tomahawk are the same gen.

I'd suggest paying an extra £25 (on the configurator) for MSI's B850-P WIFI.

With the B850-P WIFI, you will upgrade the main PCI-E slot to PCI-E 5.0 and retain the PCI-E 5.0 M.2 slot. It also has SPDIF, though worth noting it only has 2 regular jacks! If the 2 jacks are not acceptable, then I'd just pay £5 for the B650 Tomahawk.

Nice. You may want to add a few more fans for airflow

I see brother @Tetras has you covered regarding spdif on motherboard, etc .

Let's us know how you get on .

Tetras, they didn't have the B850-P-WIFI in stock, it would have taken over 2 weeks to come in so on the advice of OCUK i went for this instead which is in stock, it seems similar. in spec

I've also changed the case to this one which has venting on the top instead of glass which hopefully will help with temps and flow.

My newly built PC arrived from Overclockers, the Lian Li Dynamic Evo RGB case looks stunning, i'm seriously impressed with the case, i also had the matching Lian Li LED fans installed by Overclockers. I've not had chance to enjoy it as yet as i've been doing all the updates, initial impressions are great along with the service from Overclockers UK. I just want to thank those that helped me pick the components as i've been out of touch with the latest tech for a while, that's mainly Micky Flinn and Tetras, thanks for your help, just a pitty you can't upload pics otherwise Micky could see the build he specced me.

I've sorted the sound, the C Sub lead need to go in the Line out Jack rather than the motherboard having a dedicated C Sub port.

One question ive got is the motherboard doesn't come with a C Sub port, what sound card would you recommend getting ?
According to the manual, the other jacks are provided by the front panel. Your case only has 1x audio port though, but it should be enough for 4 channel or 5.1?

I had to go online and check the manual as it didn't come with a physical motherboard manual, I connected the sub to the number 7 Line Out Jack on the rear panel and it seems to work fine, I have a pair of front speakers, a centre speaker and the sub.

All depends on how you want your audio

1) Onboard SPDIF out to a a stereo DAC, or AVR
2) Dedicated soundcard, using analogue out
3) Dedicated soundcard using digital out
4) USB out into a DAC
5) HDMI into a AVR and/or TV, or stereo device like Wiim Amp Pro
6) Multi channel decoding or straight straight?

I'm doing 3) myself.

What would you say is the best option out of those, I'm basically using a Logitech Z906 5.1 sound system, out of that I'm just using the 2 front speakers, centre speaker and sub so 3.1. I'm just after nice quality sound, it doesn't have to be perfection, just good sound. I'm leaning towards your choice of a decent optical sound card, have you seen any good ones ?

I've just changed the sub to run from the front I/O sound port for now, sounds fine just like it was with my previous PC.

Best is subjective, but I think it's best to use digital out to an external device then decode it there. As that bypasses any noise and interference inside the PC. Whether notice in on PC speakers though..

That depends on what audio you want, if you plan on multi channel DTS X, Dolby HD, Atmos, DTS HD, then optical is ruled out as it doesn't support that. Onboard with analogue, multi channel out will support those codecs.

HDMI supports everything but I've had issues (it thinks the HDMI destination AVR decoding device is a TV so multi monitor is required but I don't want to enable that) just want the audio decoding part of it.

I'm not sure USB audio supports multi channel, I know stereo will work.

Also depends if plan to keep or change existing gear. Little point in getting SPDIF audio decoding if your speakers are line in 3.1 or 5.1 only.

I use optical out into a AVR, so I get stereo, but with the option of DTS & DD decoding, or ability to add speakers to 5.1
