The Radeon RX9070XT / RX9070 Owners Thread

nah im extending the desktop lol its purely so i can have more windows open at the same time lol
i can physically run all 4 off of my 9070xt fine its just ive got hte bug where it pins the vram at max clock if you use more than one screen and literally its rinsing the electric bill and i cant help but think that running my vram flat out for 15+ hours everyday is surely going to wear it out pretty rapidly lol
fingers crossed there eventually comes a fix for it but tbh by the time that occours il probably have a different gpu and probably be on am5 by then with integrated onboard so id use that for the extra monitors but still on am4 atm and no onboard
il just have to deal with it or try out the second gpu
i use to use a pair of nvidia quadro m4000 on my old machine for doing a similar thing multiple screens im actually mildly amused that even after massively upgrading the gpu it looks like i might need to use a second gpu to run the extra screen just so i can see what my virtual guitar amp is pretending to do without having to cycle through a milion minimised tabs in my daw lol

I only just got rid of this issue after using Radeon GPUs for the past 6 years. I now run one of my 3 monitors with the iGPU on my 9800X3D and now the VRAM downclocks, minor issue but does help a bit.

yeah its almost telling me i need to go am5 for the igpu lol im running a 5900x atm which i love but for the first time in my life im going to say this i actually have a use for onboard lol
maybe i do need to start saving i was thinking of going 9800x3d or 9900x3d as it goes tbh lol that is an upgrade i am looking to in the future
ive only been on am4 since december though i had a 4770k with the 2 quaddro cards in up until just before xmas so upgrading platform again in such a short period probably isnt the most viable option lol
but it is looking like it might be my only option

Jump from my 5900x was far more with it than I thought it would be ;-)

Quite honestly I wouldn't entertain the 9900x3d. The 9800X3D is very fast and we are pretty certain a 12core x3d on one chiplet will arrive on zen 6 so I will likely upgrade to that in 18 months or so

yeah ive been secretly keeping an eye on this whole single ccd 12 core potential
tbh id probably find 8 cores is enough for me i mean im mostly web browsing and making music , admittedly pretty big projects on the music side of things but i doubt im actually really using all 12 to the max that often better single core performance would probably benefit me more, as would that additional cache
but yeah its a while off before i can afford a complete platform change ive literally only just done my big upgrade lol
I am needing to sort this issue with the multiple monitors out though so il have to look into whether a second gpu like a 9060 if i really have to is an option doubt i can fit it in my case though tbf lol and I've literally only just got my new case just before the weekend so that is clearly not being upgraded too soon LOL!
apparently this vram thing has been an issue for years ... so might have to get the most basic radeon gpu/ literally the type you use for office type situations when you dont have onboard im sure there must be some way of doing this other than buying a 9060 which i guess could end up happening lol

also another thing my 9070xt doesnt particularly like hdmi like at all
and my monitors [samsung oddysey g7 1440p] all dont like hdmi either so the ability to use display port on the extra screen as opposed to hdmi is also a potential benefit

I would have thought the cheapest GPU you can find would do the job for the multi monitor. Can you get a 7400 or something ? I don't it even needs many pci lanes.

thats the other issue ive really only got a single x16 [at x4 speed] available to me and id need a riser cable to make that work as the 9070xt isnt small lol
tbh this is all just a compelling reason to maybe go am5 sooner than i intended maybe lol
perhaps i should grab a decent am5 board 64gb of the best low profile ram i can get within reason [to fit under my cooler easily] and grab a 9700x or something wait a year or two and grab the next gen when it releases or the 9800x3d if its not a big enough generational gap and the prices on 9800x3d comes down a bit or something
maybe i need to be aiming for am5 at the begining of next summer not for the end of the year maybe lol
good excuse i guess

it would also have to match aesthetically with the rest of the build as ive recently kinda spent a fair bit trying to make it all into a theme of some sorts for the first time ever ive vaguely attempted aesthetics hence the sapphire pure so id probably be limited
i guess could get a smaller 1x fan card and get it sprayed or vinyl wrapped in white that might work tbh wouldnt have to be exact perfect match i guess but a white theme is very much a must
il look into how much am5 would cost me to get into in a way that i wouldnt need to do more than a cpu upgrade ie a motherboard that i can see myself keeping long term and ram obviously probably is the real answer to it lol
the 9070xt though other than this hdmi and not liking the 3rd monitor thing otherwise still impresses me every time i ask it to do anything other than web surf etc it does the thing really well i do love this card and wouldn't want to part with it unless they release a next one up lol

With my 9070 I'm running all 4 monitors from the GPU at 144Hz and getting low clocks (double figures for both GPU and Mem clocks) and idling right now at 27c-28c.

I've learned over the years that there is a trick to this, the way I'm doing it is to keep all displays at the same refresh rate and use the same resolution for them all too. If clocks are still higher then make sure you have Freesync/Adaptive Sync enabled on ALL displays, just one of them, for me, if not enabled will make the memory clocks go higher and bring the higher temps.

I've even tested this with 3 displays at 1440p (VSR) with same refresh and clocks still stayed low.

Its mostly the refresh rates that affect the clocks but if you have a display thats only a 60Hz running with 144Hz and above then you're kinda screwed and stuck with it.

You could try setting displays with a multiple of 60Hz, that may help.. so a 60Hz with a 120Hz and maybe even a 180Hz might fix the high memory clocks.

thats the thing it only gives me the option on the primary screen to use any kinda synch for some reason and the refresh rate options it gives me are also different for them all
one other snag
the two landscape main monitors im using are 3440x1440p 34" curved wide screen the 3rd monitor in portrait mode is 2560x1440 and is the 27" not curved not wide screen im guessing this might be the problem
they are all from the samsung g7 range though lol
i have been trying to get them to do the same refresh and trying to get it to allow me to synch on all 3 il give it another go now lol
worst case il have to live with it and try to only use the 2 main widescreens wherever possible i guess

hte screens all do 165hz over dp but 144hz over hdmi and ive only got 2 display port and 2 hdmi im guessing htats where i discover that issue lol
il see if i can force it to use the same 144hz on all 3 see if that fixes it
thanks btw appreciate it

that looks awesome btw :-) really nice i like that a lot

Cheers.

Can you try setting them all to 144Hz and see what that does?

Also when I turn off a display that is using DP it literally turns it off like its unplugged and will move anything displayed on it to a display I still have on so can you put the third display to DP so that when you switch it off by the power button it'll turn off and leave the other 2 matching displays on?

I have 2xDP and 2xHDMI (Sapphire Pulse 9070). For me to switch the DP displays off I just change the source though I've noticed with this AMD card the HDMI displays turn off completely now, it never did that with Nvidia.

To be honest I'd be trying 144Hz on all displays, if you cant see the correct refresh rate you're after then go into the advanced display settings and click each display adaptor properties, click 'list all modes' and change it there if possible.

Edit.. If that dont fix it then its because one of the displays is a different resolution.

Check you got the latest spec cables too, some newer HDMI cables do higher refresh rates/resolutions right?

unfortunately despite them being matching screens i have totally different refresh rate options for each screen so there isnt a refresh rate available that i could set more than one screen to......... ie there isntn an option that would work for more than one screen which is really odd considering they are both matching and same latest dp cable
hdmi and this gpu ive pretty much given up on tbh lol

In windows settings you can change each monitors individual refresh rates.

Assuming you're on Windows 10/11 do you get these 'List All Modes' options?
