Moving from oled to qd

I purchased a 65" OLED65CX5LB in 2021, the wife wants to upgrade to a 75" TV...

Am I going to notice a massive difference if I go 75" qd (since they seem to be cheaper)? Is there a go to 75" oled / qd? I don't want to spend the earth
 
Youll sacrifice size for image quality, really depends on your budget and whats important to you.
 
Qd is Samsung's own tech it's a layer to enhance colours.

You can get LCD and oled both with qd

So do you want oled or LCD?

Led is the backlight in LCD
There are edge lit LCD and back lit LCDs these are called FALD
There are also micro led

Dam so I guess it's more complicated that I was thinking.. I guess the question is.. I have a 65" oled an I likley to see a big difference if I moved to qd led.. Or is it a case of it depends and some qled are better than oled and vice versa?
 
If I was going above 65" and especially if it wasn't going to be an OLED I'd be looking at nearfield laser projectors, you don't need to ceiling mount them either as they'll run sat on your TV unit and upfire to the wall/screen you place behind.

The only issue is you'd need an external sound system, soundbar setup or AVR etc as they tend not to come with built in, but you still end up with much less of a physical footprint than a massive TV hanging off your wall.

What sort of budget do you have? There's some solid options with short-throw/nearfield projectors within the £1000-2000 range.

Massive down grade I've had a Samsung QD led and numerous oleds you will loose so much, the only option I would say it would be worth while is in conservator or some where really bright. Apart from that you will need a 77" if you look 2nd hand you can find bargains i got my CX for 800

No you do not have to. There are other options.

Look at videos of a mini led VS an OLED VS a £35,000 reference monitor and see how similar they all look in real content.

Do you mean reviews or comparison videos without any data? If it's the latter it'll be hard to tell simply by nature of being limited to whatever panel tech you're using to watch the video, coupled with the recording device used.

You really need to see these things in person, and there's places which will set up tests for you such as Richer Sounds.

Yeah... that's like suggesting someone check out the sound quality of some £50k speakers by listening to them on a Youtube video through their £50 gaming headset. They're going to sound like a £50 gaming headset regardless of how good they are :cry:

Following on from my thread a couple of weeks ago where I was recommended a 65" LG B4 direct from LG, I'm going to recommend a 77" LG B4 direct from LG, for £1,900, which seems quite reasonable (depending on what you class as "spending the earth"). Note that the 65" has dropped in price a couple of times from what it's currently at, no idea if the 77" will do the same.

75" QD LG TV here, bought on impulse as it was heavily reduced from its original £3k plus price.

My kids love it, wife is happy with it, it's certainly blinding at times with HDR and such.

It seemed to improve over the 1st couple of months after we installed it. Have had it for some time now.
Newer QD TVs may be better now though.

I personally find it a little larger than I would like, despite having used a projector with an 80" screen in the past.
I don't think it handles night scenes well at all in some content, it's as if the backlight processing is struggling or the streaming quality is showing its worst maybe. Some other small quibbles apparently only I see.
It's certainly near Oled black at times, not much halo effect.

Admittedly it can depend on the quality of the streaming service, Apple certainly can be more consistent. Some movies on Netflix are certainly better than others.
It's certainly brighter than the Oleds we looked at, but when it needs replacing, it will most likely be replaced with an Oled, and certainly 65".

What I did was load a USB stick up with some 4k film demos, especially with a mixture of dark and light scenes, popped into Currys and stuck the stick into various LED and OLED and watched the footage. This way I got consistency and was far better than going by the stuff they stream to the TVs as I've noticed they stream dark stuff to OLEDS and bright stuff to the LEDS.

Or see if Richer Sounds would allow you to do the same.
