Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Hate to go all radderfire on you, but have you thought it's the ones that don't understand that allows the ones that do understand to make profit?

As professional investors label rental investors as "dumb money"... they try to cash in on rental investors mistakes.
If someone isn't going to bother looking at different mortage rates, the are allowing the bank to make less money on those who do shop around...

Heck if I knew what I did now... I wouldn't have used the 5k my mum and dad spent on a car for me when I was 22 years old and slapped it into the s&p 500, the investement would be 641.73% return @ £37,588.12

I inherited about £60k when my mum died, I was about 25.
I blew the lot.. Fancy holidays and a car and a load of mods for said car. Plus a load of partying.

Total waste of money in retrospect... If I had even invested half that conservatively , 20 odd yrs later (now) I'd be rolling in it.

If I was to be there again.. I'd still do the same but on a smaller scale and invest at the same time, as I think it's important to 'live' and have some fun but I wouldn't have really missed it if I'd have invested a decent chunk too.

He's up 6% overall. I wouldn't get too carried away. Getting overexcited about gains can lead to getting panicked over losses which is when people do stupid things.

My USA ETF is up >16% because I timed it and bought the Trump dip (along with AAPL and a few others).

I'm still happy enough with.....*checks portfolio*.....about 50/50 equities and cash at the moment. Still (just) beating inflation on the cash so not in any massive rush to increase my exposure right now.
Comments like these fall on deaf ears and it's something I've tried to say repeatedly through the thread.

He's just lucky he bought during a dip and benefitted from the rebound

Pretty sure most in here will be aware of Damien already, but if not, he's a genuine guy with a lot of knowledge. No flash courses, no silly sponsorships or affiliate links, just good old fashioned financial talk.

This is one of his best vids to date, this should really be watched by anyone not up to speed on financial stuff:

Yep, just keep investing in a low cost index fund and forget about it for a few decades. Everyone likes to complicate things though.

I used to follow Sasha Yanshin a fair bit a couple of years ago, he was still very much an underdog with a couple of thousand subs and was genuinely interesting without all the clickbait nonsense. It seems he's decided to go balls deep on the clickbait nonsense and his videos are generally all just whinge, whine.

Look at this tosspot :D

Probably because as others shouted at me when I said it, this is the trading thread not the buy and hold thread

I don't watch him but in fairness the Youtube algo is driving this massively. I know a lot of creators who refuse to do it but are finding their channels marginalised. My feed is now full of this nonsense style clickbait. Social media init.

'Clickbait' is literally how the YouTube algorithm works. All that matters is your CTR (click-through-rate). Youtube will keep pushing the video out to people as long as can keep finding an audience that is maintaining a ~6%+ CTR....if you are serious about making an income on the tube then you need to do whatever works to get people to click thumbnails....which is basically pull a stupid face and put a question in it.

Anyone else seen this?

I've not read the fine print but looks like it could be worth a punt.

Seems that in order to benefit from this, you simply need to invest £50 and hold it in there until the end of October, you'll then receive the bonus. Zero commission either, they're clearly trying to bring the fight to the likes of T212.

I'll open an account in both mine and my wife's names, that's anything from £80-£400 in bonus shares.

EDIT:

Found the gotcha:

I'll let people smarter than me comment before I open an account.

Interested to know if any OCUK investors are holding much gold or silver at the moment?
With the US seemingly hell bent on de-dollarisation there is a very strong opinion that Gold, Crypto and perhaps even silver might be good hedges for a re structure of the global financial system. I am holding about 5% of my SIPP in A Physical Gold ETF.

I've got loads of gold, a mate of mine recently moved to Spain and is holding on to it for me. It does stink a bit, but that's the fee I guess.

Loads of US money being pumped in to the UK AI industry. Going to load up more shares in defence holdings :D

Potential millionaire maker in a few years.

Some of his stuff is good. Some. Nonsense. Often in same video.
One I saw recently he was moaning about change from monthly reporting to 3 monthly. No real issue there he was saying it's to hide 1 dips in growth. Ie. 0.4 + -0.1 + - 0.1 = 0.2.

But this is nonsense. It's just smoothing. And it's not really hiding anything.

A millionaire maker? You mean a certain specific stock?

I missed out on the dip for RHM
Had previously bought at 1440 and sold at 1770. It dipped back and is now 1900.

And still annoyed I missed out on RR. Always expecting it to dip.. But it keeps going! :D

Tesla and RR are my biggest misses

"defence holdings" a company which re-branded a while back to an actual defence company (from an "esport" company weirdly), to create AI for NATO. They recently hired the ex-head of the armed forces and the guy which heads whitespace. Also already partnered up with one of the big 7 tech companies, but haven't announced which one yet. Could go big over the next 5+years.

Worth a punt as shares are still super cheap as a legacy from their old business. It was #1 most bought last week. Also good timing with the cash injection from the US.

Have you bought any?
I'm always up for a risky punt. These days if a share is memeing and you get in early, even if it is a flash in the pan... You can still make bank.
