Plane Spotters / Flight Radar Thread

We currently have a US Army Lockheed C5-M at our local air force base here at Whenuapai, NZ, 2 minutes from my house. It flew in last night, it looked so imposing! I went and got a couple of pics just now on my way home from work.

Is this America annexing New Zealand now…?

For a 'passive' (remote) interest, is an annual FlightRadar subscription the best option, or are there other ways that make more sense ?
I do have an SDR I bought years back that I need to look into again, but I'm not really in a position to get much from it.

Depends what your interest is, you can use many of the features of FR24 for free, though a silver membership at least opens up some useful options / features.

Also look at https://globe.adsbexchange.com/
Not the greatest interface but it includes aircraft that FlightRadar etc do not show.

Just had a hawk mk 167 fly over Cardiff. I could tell without flight radar well before it flew over it was the RAF and a jet . Iv not heard many jets come over recently unless I have been oblivious

Here is the full playback, seems to have taken off at Leeming , and done an approach and possibly land or go touch and go at Cardiff Airport - and headed back

If you setup your own flight radar receiver and feed that data to them they give you a free Business Account. Similar for FlightAware. It's really easy with a compatible SDR and a Raspberry Pi as there is a Flight Tracking Image available in the Pi Imager.

B-52s look like they are heading into Europe ahead of Trump's visit

Not sure what deployment / if there is anything significant to it.

Unrelated I would imagine.

Unless it’s in case Trump decides he wants to carpet bomb the boats coming across the channel.

For even better experience, join the spotters in the aircraft viewing park at Waddington!
Been there for the last couple of days seeing the German Typhoons and the Canadian Hornets during exercise cobra warrior. It is always impressive seeing and perhaps mre impressively, hearing them take off. The loudest I've heard was the Saudi F15s which were there in March.
