Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

and yet not 1 single solar panel on the roof. it is huge as well. weight not withstanding they could have put many 100s of panels on it and generated a ton of energy. Inside the warehouse they have a handful of JCBs and other machinery crushing and sorting the materials. that machinery could be EV powered and run off their own roof. Sure, initial expense but long term would pay for itself and more, plus no issues with indoor air quality with ICE engines running etc.
Only in Netherlands have I heard of electric JCB type vehicles, its possible but cutting edge and only a country that will be below sea level has that level of motivation to make sure its done by default. Not sure what happens to London if sea levels do rise as much as they say, some excellent pumps etc. required.

Is Tomato still under some kind of restrictions

i agree, also heatpumps only. You can make a case for heatpumps not working in old properties which would need major work.......... but new builds? it should not even be worthy of a discussion.

in my home town they recently opened a massive new reycling centre/ rubbish dump. its all indoor in a huge brand new purpose built warehouse. They have reclying stats up and what not and claim to take renewables v seriously.

Probably find the old way of doing it is all certified, signed off, fully designed out, etc. and switching to a different setup is incredibly expensive and time consuming (and these days likely tied down by red tape, bureaucracy, inertia and incompetence), though it will have to happen at some point.

I'm currently with Octopus, my fix is ending and the new deal being offered is
Electricity 24.64 (p/kWh) - 57.69 standing charge
Gas 5.70 (p/kWh) - 33.16 standing charge

Not a lot else out there to choose from though with only marginal savings to be had but I like Octopus customer service.

Check out fuse energy and see what they are in your area, was by far the cheapest when I switched last month. Saved £8.40 alone in standing charges going from Octopus to fuse (was on a fixed tariff). Although prices went up on the September tariffs compared to August.

There is actually quite a lot of electric stuff about but its not moved really across to the large equipment yet.
Generally its used indoors and as such people don't want the massive stuff.

You can get 2t type range of excavators for example so hardly small.

The UK as ever is slow to adapt. My other half is still in the tool hire game so goes to some expos etc and brings the leaflets home and the range available vs the range used is quite stark.
Her companies range is slowly expanding. It makes life a lot easier for the H&S types when any potential in door usage is required/possible.

Underground workings, mines and tunnels use electric vehicles to provide a cleaner atmosphere. Scrubbers on diesel plant is quite old hat.

True, also ATEX
Many of the areas you mention have explosive atmospheres, or risks of them, as such an ATEX compliant electric vehicle is way way safer than one that uses combustible fuel.

I'm still on Octopus tracker apparently until Feb 26 for both elec and gas which today shows as:

Elec 21.88p/kwh - 62.22p/day standing
Gas 4.98p/kwh - 29.25p/day standing

Not sure what to do really.

Depends if you feel like prices are going up and up (which they are expected to) on that kind of rate though (specially the gas) the only thing higher than fixed rates is the standing charges

Yes they are a bit cheaper! I am tempted to make the switch. Their app doesn't look as good as the Octopus one but I suppose its not the end of the world if its cheaper.

Sent screenshots from the app (my gas meter isn't online yet)
I'll agree it's not as fancy but still serviceable

I've just realised that I don't miss having an app for Home Energy. While EDF did have an app, I probably used it once a month at the very most.

They still can't read my gas meter yet and my IHD still shows the EDF tariff information for gas too. Hopefully they just need to ping the gas meter or something and it will all start working.

just switched to fuse from EDF. Was looking atsainsburys for the nectar points but fuse was much cheaper.
Also a random referral code frm reddit and got £25.

Ive never actually switched before so i'm hoping its all just automatic and edf dont screw up somehow!

Another SC increase.... £340 annual bill, of that £249.96 is SC, talk about being bent over.
Four years ago it was 25p a day (Octopus GO, 68p now)
