Since Google assistant has been switched to gemini basically all of the features I used to this this for have gotten worse.

Mainly I used GA during satellite navigation whilst driving for random questions, or to reroute to a new place, play a song etc.

Now most of the time gemini just doesn't launch and the "thinking" spinning Google colours just carry on spinning.

When it does work (mainly at home if I ask lights on or something) it's slower. Responses are generally worse.
Its almost like before if I asked GA to "turn off living room" it directly referenced my routines and actioned the one required. Now it's like gemini recognises it's a Google home request.. Has to access Google home, then has runs the routine. Basically adding time.

Its gotten to the point I'd rather touch the screen. I know gemini is coming to Google home devices (which I have) and I'm just hoping it's not as bad.

Anyone else have similar? Or is this something local to me?

Can you just go back to GA on the phone?

My biggest gripe is it just doesn't work on sat nav for me. I've seen I can go back to GA apparently.
All I use it for is smart home stuff and in car navigation. As GA was better at both in switching back. Although I hear it's coming to smart home devices soon.
 
Gemini is awful for my needs. Gets turned off immediately and it's noticable if it ever swtiches.

Play some music or radio in the car? Useless.
Turn off a light through Phillips Hue? Useless.
Ask it to run an automation that's been setup in Google Home? Useless.

For other artifical "intelligence" stuff it's fine, but man, the basics, just doing what I ask it to, useless.
 
So I have been back on GA for a week now and no issues.
I use that function of my phone as an assistant. And GA just works better.

I was hoping it would be better or no change. But it just didn't work so much I stopped using hands free in the car. Not great.

I just hope they don't get rid of GA. Because I feel that's where it's going.

Yeah this is what I use mine for entirely.
Home automation and especially in the car.
In the car it just plain doesn't work. The 4 coloured Google dots just spin and it closes.

I know it must do stuff better. But for me? All. It added was hassle.

It's going to take over all my home devices in October. It can't be worse.

I've been using it on the phone and it's better than assistant but still annoying.
