I don't necessarily think Southgate would be any good, but he does have experience operating in a hugely demanding environment and would perhaps bring some calm to things.

But I couldn't stand him as England manager and I think he's a very average coach... but then Amorim isn't exactly covering himself in glory!

The fact I've even briefly contemplated it just shows bad things are! :o  Maybe a caretaker for a bit if Amorim was sacked, but there will be better options, probably...

I'd probably get rid of him on the basis that the season is basically over already (no Europe, knocked out of league cup, as close to the relegation zone as the top half) so it means the new man can some in gets the best part of a year to put his stamp on things, establish a pattern of play, identify transfer targets, make peace with some of the bomb squad before it's too late, potentially have a tilt at the FA cup etc. Normally the lack of preseason would make this a risk (like when they ditched Ten Haag), but there's not really anything to mess up right now.

So he's said that even the Pope couldn't convince him to change formation. What a weird guy. He seems to think his players will lose trust in him. For changing formation? Really? Don't you think they're starting to lose faith in you winning games after failing to do so for so long?

I think the writing is on the wall if he's so inflexible and the poor results continue.

Also there's a rumour going around that if he's sacked before 1st Nov (less than a year in charge) he'll get a £12m payoff.

At this point I'm just laughing at it all, what a complete farce of a club, from top to bottom. It is comical. They deserve what they get (apart from the dinner ladies they sacked!).

The season was always development season anyways, the goal isn't league cups or FA. It's the league in 3 years time. Nothings changed in that regard other than less game time from the league cup.

This thread is just hyperbolic reactionary behaviour. Same old circle this fan base has done for 13 years now. The club's trying to change their behaviour, maybe we could?

Change him now or next April makes very little difference unless we get relegated.

Emery is doing worse this season with an easier start. He's just got more in the bank from his three years and with less expectations and an easier starting point. But naturally nobody who loves being fed clickbait cares about that.

I'd rather be patient n not join the media train of loading on him because it's popular. Nothing wrong with taking a breath for 6 months, pour a cuppa tea n stop feeding the machine.

Interview with Sky:

Engaging as always, but he just needs to get results now. All this talk of philosophy is meaningless otherwise.

Apparently (taken with a pinch of salt) Ratcliffe told him he must get into Europe this season, that's the target. So 6th/7th~ or the FA Cup. That looks a long way off at present...

He says he will do everything he can as manager to win. Everything...

I'm starting to sway more towards AmorIN than AmorOut. Unsure whether it's 60:40 or 51:49.

I think the players and INEOS/Glazers are having more of a negative impact than the manager.

He's not without fault though.

I think we're at a hugely critical point now.

If we can somehow win the next two games - very possible - it would inject some real belief into the players and Amorim too - it would almost vindicate him, to an extent. It's worth remembering we've had a tough start to the league season, playing Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea in the first 5 games, and we're level on points with City as it stands.

It was nice to see him looking more relaxed in the press conference afterwards, and he does seem a decent guy and you definitely can't accuse him of lacking conviction. As we've endured this pretty awful run of form together, it would be great if he can turn things around from here and we start performing more like a top 6 side.

But as ever, it's hard to read too much into one result, especially when Chelsea threw the game pretty early. Fingers crossed though.

We do need to improve. It's been a problem for years that we can pull the odd performance out of the bag against good sides, then get walked over by 'lower' teams. I'd be dreading this Brentford game if we hadn't pinched their best player and they lost their manager.

Emery will end up leaving villa, could UTD tempt him?

I think he'd be up for it but I'm not too sure about him. He's done some impressive things but I always find him a bit... dull/odd.

Exactly, we've always looked more motivated against the traditional bigger sides.

Brentford look awkward, the long throws and set pieces are not going to be good with Bayindir in goal :p

Sunderland are no pushovers either. Then it's Liverpool...

They may have lost their best player and manager but I am still dreading this game .

I think my issue is that we still seem to have the incredible ability to not look threatening/create decent chances.

We rely so much on those odd moments of brilliant or bundle balls over the line (see both goals from the Chelsea game). However we just don't seem to create many slick movements that result in goal opportunities. It's been the same for years and even with a changed front line we look pretty much the same in the final third.

You watch the City game and they break with cohesion and as a team, we seem to stutter around and then either cross the ball into the first defender, or just play it around the edge of the box.

A bit like Arsenal then?

It looks more cohesive and more urgent this season but without much real quality in the final third. We have to hope that Cunha, Mbeumo and possibly Sesko are too good to misfire for a whole season. In fairness he hasn't been able to play all three of them together for a half or full game yet.

Yeah we lack killer instinct and clinical finishing. Unlike Haaland who is a machine.

I'm hoping he can find a more settled starting 11 to really make those connections. The team is constantly changing and I still don't think he knows his best 11.
I suspect its.

Lammens
Martinez - De Ligt - Yoro
Dorgu - Fernandes - Ugarte - Amad
Cunha - Sesko - Mbuemo

Mazraoui is a very good footballer but he's much better at LCB. He loves Dalot and Mount and I get why but they aren't really a good fit for this formation imo.

7 points from 15 is par performance given the fixtures but he has to coach 3/4 wins in a row to build confidence in the players and the fans.

I don't know why he keeps changing it, surely he knows his team by now? Changing the defenders often.

The problem is the players are going to be the same regardless of the manger.

Not keen on Martinez personally. Dorgu and Ugarte are poor (the former not so bad but he's still not good enough). Amad could have peaked last season.

Even with a new manager I reckon it's top 10 at best. So they might as well stick with Amorim, assuming he gets some wins under his belt.

A lot of the issues are similar to under EtH, just slightly different, suggesting that it is the players that are a big part of the issue.

I think he's relaxed because he'll get a nice pay out regardless
