Borderlands 4 (2025)

A couple weeks ago Epic defended UE5 and put out a statement saying if a UE5 game has poor performance, it's because the developers don't know what they are doing.

Then BL4 launches and Randy blames the customers; his UE5 game is perhaps the worst performing UE5 game in history and he has no excuse, all says is its a premium game made for high end premium PCs - if you're not a high end premium PC gamer, then the game isn't for you, and that goes double for console peasants, the game isn't for them either according to Randy anyway

Must be some kind of pc combo hardware to blame as the game is running flawlessly on a 5080, 5800x3d at 4k here maxed, no crashes, no performance slowdowns (only when coming out of the menu but perf goes back up).

Thing is, it isn't even UE 5, it's the devs. that need to be held accountable more so than the engine. The engine certainly isn't perfect and work to be done still but devs should be held accountable. There are plenty of very well optimised ue 5 games e.g. dune awakening, hellblade 2, stalker 2, the finals, still wakes deep, robocop, satisfactory, silent hill 2 remake, split fiction, cronos new dawn etc.

Having a hellish time with crashes, particularly since the two updates. Prior to that I had 3 crashes in approx. 20 hrs of gameplay ... each one related to the UE5 engine. After the updates I have had countless crashes ( some of which have corrupted side mission / mission save states rendering them permanently broken ) and every single one has been a GPU dump error. Like some, I have run the crash logs through AI analysis and they all point toward an error with Lumen implementation.

Just loving this, I put it above BL2 now for the gameworld/gameplay (though I wish I had the BL2 vault hunters), 30 hours played , no crashes and I still have only actually revealed about 20% of the map, if the remaining 80% of the map takes the same amount of time then this could end up as a 150 hour game for me :)

RT adds so much to this game, just goes to show even with the cartoon art style, it transforms the games visuals, the way the environment changes completely depending on the lighting is incredible, with sun sets/rises, you get the orange/yellow glow in your environment, likewise when the ships etc. block the sun, it changes the environments look and feel

I just got the game so didn't get to play it pre-update and so far it's crashed 5 times 'in-game' during the first minute you get to be in control, it's currently unplayable for me

I have no other games that crash.

Nvidia 5090.

Solved it already

My rock solid stable memory was running at 6200mhz and 2067 FCLK, no issues in any other game

Changed it in the BIOS to 6000Mhz and 2000 FCLK and it seems to be fine now.

Not sure I understand the question...me?

It was the first thing I thought about, as I run everything else at stock settings

I should really look to undervolt my 5090
Sorry, I've misinterpreted what you wrote. I thought you meant the game had somehow changed your memory settings. But instead you've dialled them back intentionally to improve stability.

I've tried my memory at stock and with EXPO - no difference, still crash. I normally run with an undervolt on my 5090. Again, no difference if it's on or off. This is all on Gearbox ( and I suspect NVIDIA with the latest drivers ).
