Hollow Knight: Silksong (Releases Today!)

It's seems all the main issues only impact act1, once you hit act2 you are showered with rosaries and the boss fights, exploration and music improve aswell.

I'm still confused by the crests, I want to try different ones but unless im using the one that makes the down attack hit directly below then exploration is basically impossible with all the pogoing thats required.

I just use the hunter crest (default crest) with the upgrade that builds focus (5 hits I think without taking damage and your hits do more, there is a little bar that fills up). I don't have an issue with the diagonal pogo, it's got nice range on it for fights and for bouncing off things you can just wait until you are basically on top of them anyway.

I just used the default one for the entire game. Except for the parts when you pick up a new crest and it automatically equips it and you have to use it with no addons until you manage to find your way to the nearest bench so you can swap it out again...

It kind of seems like they should have released Act 1 as the first part years ago. Then launched Acts 2/3 as they did last week.

Fought an optional boss (I think)
First Sinner
. That was a fun fight. Rune rage paired with volt filament is great, takes a while to cast but rips things apart.

Don't know whether ending talk in general is a spoiler so

Got the normal ending done & then went for the cursed ending.Cursed ending has you having to beat grand mother silk while cursed, so no healing, no silkskills and no tools. Going to move on to act 3 now

Ok so I’m absolutely raging… I’m quite deep into act 2 and I had completely missed something major in act 1

I never ****ing upgraded my needle! My mate asked me if it’s far in the game to upgrade the needle and I said I hadn’t found anything to that effect yet….

He then messaged me to say he’d done it just after the Widow boss, wtf!!!

Turns out I completely omitted to go ‘up’ in Bellhart after I beat Widow. My ****ing face.

I just finished High Halls. Yeah.

Fffffffff!!!!!!!!

Having a love hate with this. There's so much GOTY in it, spoiled by cynical long runs to bosses. The deeper into it I get the more I find myself just exiting the game until I cba again.

And don't get me started on teleporting mobs in Vedania...

It’s certainly a major test of patience! I am going nuts trying to kill something called Docker boss. He keeps summoning additional baddies as well!

My poor DualSense is going through the wringer with this game. Analogue sticks being tortured in all directions and the X button getting hammered.

Played a bunch more now, just defeated the phantom and now reach groal the great. Honestly this game is such a mixed bag, there's a bunch of superb areas and great well well-designed bosses like Phantom and then there's absolute ******* like Groal the Great that is some of the worst most frustrating game design ever. Some bosses are fun, unique and well-designed and then that **** is just a ridiculous runback followed by a gauntlet followed by a crap boss. It honestly seems to be 50/50 whether there will be a good unique boss or another gauntlet-style boss that just throws endless amounts of crap at you.

I got him on my second try after discovering you can get on top of him and just pogo his brain to death without any danger. I think I was using wanderer crest

Yea he's not difficult he's just an example of multiple bad design choices compounding making it a frustrating experience especially when compared to a good example of a boss like phantom or first sinner.

Finished today, 46hours 38min, 81%. Got all the endings. Not sure I will bother going for 100% as it's just rounding up all the tools, items and collectables and there is nothing for doing it as far as I know. What a great game, well worth the wait

Thoughts on various bosses and other things.

Skarrsinger Karmelita was an amazing boss, super fun fight.
The First Sinner was a fun fight as well.
Lost Lace, I think she was my favourite boss. Really enjoyed the fight. Starts out as basically just Lace with a few void moves added, then each phase ramps up. Lace can still be baited into counter attacking you, so you can dodge it and get some free hits and even in phase 4 there is always an out, never are you just trapped with no move. Just an amazing fight.
Nyleth. Worst boss in the game, not hard, just incredibly dull.
Crust King Khan, as I saw someone on Reddit say, man is a fraud. Barely a boss. I did see someone say he was going to be an act 1 boss, don't know if that is bs, but would explain it.
Groal the Great, another fairly dull boss.
Still don't see what's wrong the run back for the Last Judge. It's 40s and you can skip every enemy. Not liking run backs in general, fair enough, but I don't know why this one is singled out.
Fleas are great, they need to release a flea plush.
Cogwork Dancers and Clover Dancers were good fights.

Finished it today
GMS was disappointing, literally fighting god and its such a boring fight compared to lace beforehand. Lace reacts to and counters everything, its a really fast aggressive fight whereas gms just floats around a bit
