Alien TV series (Alien Earth) : 2025

It’s crap bar one episode (5 I think it is) the shows instantly forgettable. If you want another example of bad writing watch it.

This!

This wont be one that people will keep going back to

It's the lord of the rings tv show of the Alien world

I think on a continuum from Andor(great) to Rings of Power(an emabarassment to it's source material) this is firmly in the middle. The production values are great, it looks awesome, most of the acting is good if anything the actors are let down by the plot. Yes there is plot armour and the characters are as smart or a stupid as they need to be depending on the situation but I'm still finding it mostly entertaining. Ther are at least 4 probably 5 Alien movies worse than this series.

It doesn't even rate on the scale compared to Andor.

I'm two episode's in..... This has been described to me as the best since Aliens.

It gets better right ? It's the pacing I'm struggling with. Seems a bit all over, doesn't really raise tension for actual horror/surprised. They just kind of happen. Then the flip side. Some of the story drags. Hah

I like it but I wouldnt describe it as the best since Aliens, I wouldnt compare a tv show to a movie as they are different mediums with different restrictions and different aims.

But if it helps, I can find just as many holes in the Aliens movie as people are finding in the tv series (in fact I can find just as many holes and conveniences in pretty much every movie ever), sometimes you've simply got to stop picking at the logic of a movie/tv show and enjoy it for what it is and by all means if the amount of enjoyment isnt sufficient then cease watching. Its not like anyone is forced to waste their time watching something they arent enjoying, at least not if they are a normal person anyway :D

Fortunately back in the 80s and 90s there wasn't an internet industry of creators making a living from picking holes in film and shows. If Alien or Aliens came out today these same people would making the same 'reaction' videos and picking them apart.....and there'd be this same weird crowd of people that spend more time watching reaction videos and declaring how terrible everything is, than actually just watching and enjoying things.

If I was to rank this, I'd put it Alien >>>>>>>> Aliens > Alien 3 > Alien Earth > Everything else >>>>>> Alien Resurrection.

I'd have preferred it without the 'talking to aliens' bit, prefer the franchise when it's just aliens being murdering death machines, but it's not as completely daft as Resurrection.

Its fine for someone to not like something or not find something enjoyable, that makes sense, everyone cant like everything. Why someone would then continue to watch something that they arent enjoying though is just bizarre to me.

Someone mentioned Lost earlier in the thread, see now I liked Lost....at first, but when I stopped enjoying it, I stopped watching it. I was the same with Dexter, enjoyed it at first but then went off it and stopped watching it, True Detective was another and more recently Reacher , which I thought was superb at first but then stopped enjoying it so stopped watching it. Basically I have better things to do than spend precious time watching something I'm not enjoying, seems masochistic to do so really, but then Brits do like to have something to grumble about :D

I get they had to have a story that is greater than just constantly chasing aliens, and it's a good one because it's asking a lot of interesting questions about future tech. But did they really have to go with kids as hybrids, having adults act like kids is super goofy.

I like Ade as the right hand man, he does a good job of that, his eccentric boss is a fascinating character, but a bit blasé about containment, I'd expect someone so smart to be more like Jeff Goldblums character from Jurassic Park, kinda appropriately cautious that something like that could all go to hell pretty fast. The brother sister relationship is just weird, the brother is weird.

They've been implying that Wendy is under the surface a badass and she's carrying a sword, but we've not really seen any action with her. It would have been nice to see some of that.

The look and feel they've done a great job with mirroring the tech from the original film, but the problem is it just looks stupid these days. You have these big fat clunky plastic tech everywhere and what looks like crt monitors. But it's all supposed to be super advanced, again its just goofy. It's worth a watch if you can suspend disbelief, but they're really straining at the seams with that. It looks exactly how you'd expect, an old projection of the future which the present has overtaken.
