I’m looking to buy an Apple TV box in the coming weeks, especially now I found the infuse app to replace kodi for watching mkv files from my library

Is there anything I should be aware of or any other apps that are recommended?

TV Launcher is pretty good. Other than that there are apps for pretty much every streaming service.

Off the top of my head I have BBC iPlayer, ITVx, Channel 4, Channel 5, Prime Video, YouTube, Disney+, Netflix, U, Paramount, Twitch, Discovery+, Now, Nasa, TED.

Doesn’t it act as a tv guide so your Apple TV becomes the main program launcher?

Yep. It shows you TV programmes and when you watch them it opens up the relevant app.

Yes - via Siri on the remote

So it doesnt steam the channel itself? thats a shame, trying to setup a apple TV to stream BBC news all day but it times out after a couple of hours.

No it doesn't. It just uses the apps for each channel.

Vidi is a Stremio alternative for AppleTV. Functions pretty much the same.

I have recently found infuse too, omg its so good to be able to let the ATV do the decoding rather than having a GPU in my server chewing through power.

Roll on the new one, i will be getting it.

Been using Infuse for a couple of yewars now to stream MKV content from my NAS box.
Works a treat.

It isn't. When I used it, it didn't support Plex user accounts and that's a major issue.

It’s a replacement for plex, and that uses the Apple TV to do the decoding rather than the server itself.

I'd hold off for a couple of months, if the rumours are correct there's a new Apple TV due this year
