What "man jobs" have you done today?

I've never had good experience with frog/masking tape. Even when it doesn't pull the paint off, I think you can get a better edge just learning to cut in properly with a decent brush. And when you can do that, it's just quicker and less faff.

Got some jobs done this weekend.

Fillered the holes in the flat ceiling that got popped when it was re-insulated. Once that's smoothed off I will paint it.
Chopped a load of kindling.
Deep cleaned the log burner, hearth, double wall flue, and surround.

Tidied up around the woodstore, strimmed the grass, moved all the junk that had acumilated over summer out the way and filled the coal bunker and kindling bunker. Come on winter, do your worst!

Put a screw through a lighting cable under the stairs while tightening up my staircase treads and risers. At least it proved that the RCD is working properly!

Have taken the opportunity to replace the ancient light.

Been cleaning the 2nd sheet of steel ready for painting, done the other side at the weekend but it looks terrible as the bitumen paint has gone lumpy.:(

Maybe time to buy a cable tester?
You don't need a cable tester, a screw or nail will find the cable 100% of the time :D

Volt sticks testers are ok to show if there's power in a cable, but don't trust them to say if the power is off or if there's a cable where you're drilling.

Started writing a serious plan for a garden room as it might be my last chance to get started before winter.

Looking at @Buffman 's thread, but can't find dlockers's one. As he's deleted himself have all his threads gone too? :(

Yeah I think he nuked his account and most photos

I've got further with the decking in front of mine I'll need to post some pics, still not insulated the garden room as its more of an expensive shed for me :D

Been putting some decking in last few weekends. Anyone think it's a big issue if its a couple mm out on the short section where it meets the long board? (angles must be off very slightly but they all read 45degrees on my mitre and digital angle finder)

Think I'm gonna live with it as cba redoing it.

Finally got round to painting my son's wall, ready for his new wardrobe install - I know it seems daft to want the paint *behind* a wardrobe to look nice, but it made sense to do the whole wall, rather than just the bit that'll be on view.

Made sure to dilute the Valspar Trade Tough this time (10:1), as it was lifting off with the roller last time. Used green Frog Tape to barrier between the colours, then painted the dark grey first.

Did the green triangle after, let it set for 20 minutes, then carefully removed the tape. Result was much, much better than first go, with a sharp line and minimal bleeding.

Recovery day tomorrow, then hopefully a trip to IKEA on Friday to pick up the wardrobe, ready to build over the weekend. Son will be pleased to store his clothes without every item getting accessorised by his cat, Jaxx...
