The **Now Eating** Thread

I've always loved these cookies and I've always loved Marzipan.

Anyway I watched a few videos by a guy who reviews vintage and unusual MRE's on YouTube. So as a bit of fun I ordered a UK 24 hour ration pack and the kids and I tried the different components over a number of days. It was surprisingly good. The kids thought it was a hoot.

3 meals 4,000 calories

Breakfast
Tea - English Breakfast style with creamer and sugar - alright you get used to creamer after you've burnt your tastebuds off.
Coffee - strong and instant rather hot with creamer.
Tutti Fruity - instant powder drink, rather enjoyable for what it was.
All Day Breakfast - Mostly beans with tinned style sausages, bits of bacon and a small omlette. Obviously the suasgaes and omlette are only tolerable not exactly enjoyable but the beans were really good it was a fight over the last of it.
Mini Coconut Cakes - very dry, a consequence of being shelf stable no doubt, but really good shortbread like taste.

Lunch
Energy Drink Blackcurrant flavour - kids weren't fans but if someone had given me that in the water bottle playing rugby I'd have been very happy. A refreshig energy drink.
Beef Burrito Filling with Rice - this has a little kick to it and once again was a good solid meal we ate it all no complaints.
Chocolate Orange Cookies - much like the coconut ones very dry but tasty little snacks. I wouldn't buy them in the supermarket but wouldn't turn my nose up if I was on a hike.

Dinner
Spicy Suasge and Potato Wedges - this was the one that filled people with trepidation. It was a tomtao based sauce with balck eye beans and ptoato wedges and some slices of a slightly spiced sausage. It had a smokey taste and after initial uncertainty everyone really liked it and gobbled the lot.
BBQ Peanuts - not a lot to say peanuts with a barbeque style coating
Orange Cake - this smelled great from the moment you opened the packet. It's a little dense but I guess it has to be. We ate it plain and it was loverly. The we added the peanut butter and it worked really well as little slice with peanut butter on top.
Peanut Butter - good quality crunchy peanut butter
Hot Chocolate drink - really good easily an equal to Cadbury's instant if not a little better. There was a fight over this.

The food was surprisingly good from start to finish my eldest was very picky and didn't eat much but the youngest and my wife were both very impressed.

I'm not planning to buy a 1 year apolocalype supply of these it was just a fun activity with the kids it cost £15-ish delivered from MRE4you.co.uk for a random 2024 UK 24 Hour Ration Pack.
