Silent Hill F

Alright so here's my initial thoughts on playing the first section.

Technical:
The game does NOT ship with the latest DLSS and defaults to Preset E, use DLSS Swapper to manually update these:

If you do not, then you will suffer from image instability, Preset K fixes these when in DLSS Quality, whilst Performance does still have some, but less than Quality using Preset E.

There is no frame gen, no DLAA, only FSR 3.1 and TSR. TSR is good image quality but is 45-55fps on a 4090 at 4K using max settings. DLSS Quality is ~85fps in the forest or ~100fps in the villages.

Performance is largely excellent with super smooth frametimes and frame pacing. There are some initial hitches but once everything is going after that, it's smooth with the random hitch here and there. I have locked the game with RTSS to 90fps. Ingame GFX options are fairly limited, fps cap is in there but only for 30fps and 60fps, all cutscenes are 30fps and going from 90fps to 30 as soon as a cutscene tarts can feel jarring too.

Visually it looks excellent, the lighting and volumetrics in motion especially.

There is no FOV slider.

Gameplay video:

Gameplay:
Character movement is rather odd, visually looks like she is "floating" like a robot, movement coming to a stop is abrupt and seems disjointed, its' easy enough to ignore this but it's still quite jarring. Combat and targeting system seems fine to me, intuitive and responsive. DualSense haptics do feature but no sign of adaptive triggers sadly which is a shame.

The sound is excellent and overall mechanics otherwise feel good, inventory and menus are all responsive and you can even skip right past the intro screens on game load.

Yeah performance is more than fine really considering it's UE5.

Game looks terrible for me cannot even play it yet LOL

Weird red shadow reflection glow on everything no way to disable it I can find! :(

Just trying to download it again on my other rig to see if its rig specific or not!

Yeah, there's a big thread on the steam forums with people with 5090s having the same issue. I wasn't on the latest GPU driver though so updated that which let me actually play the game :p

Performance seems alright as far as UE5 goes.

4K everything maxed.

TSR Quality: ~66 FPS

DLSS Quality: ~103 FPS

DLSS Performance: Hits my 117 FPS cap

Yeah I’ll be grabbing this fairly soon I think. Off work next week but I have a load of jobs around the house lined up so I need to try and resist any temptations until they’re done.

This is what mine looks like on both rigs! Not sure how to fix as 2 different displays (same GPU type & brand though RTX 5060 Ti 16GB).

What drivers?

Yea as mentioned above are you doing something in the Nvidia App or Control Panel?

Could try a clean install of the drivers.

Yeah there's been a bug with the 50 series for a while where overriding AF breaks a lot of stuff in certain games. Best to override it on a game by game basis to see if it's going to bork anything.

Are you even sane without studio drivers :p

I very much regret picking the Lost in Fog difficulty for the puzzles. Especially since the very first one seems to rely on knowledge from outside the game...
