Alien TV series (Alien Earth) : 2025

I get they had to have a story that is greater than just constantly chasing aliens, and it's a good one because it's asking a lot of interesting questions about future tech. But did they really have to go with kids as hybrids, having adults act like kids is super goofy.

I like Ade as the right hand man, he does a good job of that, his eccentric boss is a fascinating character, but a bit blasé about containment, I'd expect someone so smart to be more like Jeff Goldblums character from Jurassic Park, kinda appropriately cautious that something like that could all go to hell pretty fast. The brother sister relationship is just weird, the brother is weird.

They've been implying that Wendy is under the surface a badass and she's carrying a sword, but we've not really seen any action with her. It would have been nice to see some of that.

The look and feel they've done a great job with mirroring the tech from the original film, but the problem is it just looks stupid these days. You have these big fat clunky plastic tech everywhere and what looks like crt monitors. But it's all supposed to be super advanced, again its just goofy. It's worth a watch if you can suspend disbelief, but they're really straining at the seams with that. It looks exactly how you'd expect, an old projection of the future which the present has overtaken.

So you'd rate it:
  • goofy/10.

I do not see Kavalier as the Jeff Goldblum character. To use your analogy, he is more like John Hammond (Attenborough), sets the vision, but is more concerned with this than the security wrap. Kavalier is more like Bezo, Musk etc goal focused, everything else is 2nd place, but that's why they have security specialists and advisors to stop them going too far - it looks like Kavalier either did not employ these or just chooses to ignore them.

Wendy is bad ass, but remember this is the first series. We have seen some of her fighting skills and abilities, i'm expecting a showdown in the final episode and then maybe we will see more in S2 when she has realised these abilities - much like superheroes who do not fully understand their powers at first.

Tech - they have tried to keep with the feel of the original Alien(s), which would work if it were not for the rest of the tech we are shown - you are right, the two do not marry up!

Issues aside, I'm just glad we have Alien back on our screens :)

I'm two episode's in..... This has been described to me as the best since Aliens.

It gets better right ? It's the pacing I'm struggling with. Seems a bit all over, doesn't really raise tension for actual horror/surprised. They just kind of happen. Then the flip side. Some of the story drags. Hah
Watch episode 5, then sack it off & watch Endor.
Maybe in another 10 years or so, Disney may get the franchise right & do a good alien series.

I was going to update people, I watched Episode 3 and quite enjoyed it, a friend stopped here as said it was too slow, but that is what I was struggling the pacing, this episode was sensibly paced, which built the tension, it does look like it may get silly but this can be okay as not taking it seriously.

For me, I am quite invested in the universe! read lots of the books, i'm sure one was Earth hive, comics when younger etc, don't get me wrong I would likely have gave up had everyone said it was totally shocking . The films needless to say I rewatch regularly!

I read Earth Hive and stuff when I was a kid, and even then I thought it was pretty throwaway low grade pulp stuff. Not sure I'd want to see any of that make it to the screen. There was all this royal jelly nonsense if I remember right? Was probably the best part of 30+ years ago.

Oof. 33 years ago. Now I feel old :(

God I forgot about some of that stuff !

Was mainly how I was invested in the universe than it being good as a comment. I did enjoy the alien III audible book with lance henriksen.

Talking of being old, I remember having the figures as a kid ! O'Malley etc.

Not long now until we get the first complaints about the season one finale. :D

With the exception of everything on the Maginot, the show has been dull and predictable.

Some interesting moments, dragged out over too many episodes.

Again when the other kid stumbles upon the scientist under the bed, the kid asks for help, the other refuses. 2 seconds later he agrees. Then they magically do not get caught.

They can't track the synths because boy genius didn't think to have 2fa or his authorisation to disable tracking. That's big BS right there. Billions invested here.

The boys struggle with body even though they are extremely strong. They decide to use it when it suits them.

Marcy able to unlock xeno chamber because she's a super computer but can't disable her tracking.

Marcy from just making alien sounds or amplifying it, somehow learned the language. The Xeno obeys for 0 reasons.

What did you do! What did you do! She then became a killer just like that.

Is this series going to be like Picard, where they finally get it right in season three? :p

Hopefully not, otherwise we'll have a bunch of people saying all through season 2 that they think its rubbish yet still waste 8 hours of their time watching every episode, what did rp2000 call it, hate watching :D

Yep. Imagine watching something you dislike for 8 hours.

Clearly people are very bored in their personal lives.
