Yep, the best of both worlds currently!Owned a few variants of both and I guess 5070 ti and 9070xt are the best of this gen if got for under £600

In some games, the 5090 truly is a waste of money vs a 9070XT in terms of value offering.

And it others a 5090 trumps the 9070xt... It depends what you're after, like always.
I think I paid £620 for my 9070xt as they were quiet pricey when I bought.
I'd call that an 'upper mid-range' card... Spending more than that, the value for money ratio really drops off the cliff.
I mean, if you want to spend a grand+, fill your boots, but don't be under any illusions that you're not getting your pants pulled down.

If you're happy with less, that's fine. Worth kipping in mind that AMD is way behind when it comes to RT/PT at the top end. That 5090 is about twice as fast with RT and a lot more in PT. If these two matter, then the 5090 is the only choice vs a 9070xt, especially at 4k. Of course, if you have the money.Correct of course, but there are ways to get around some performance deficiencies with certain gpu's MFG from the GPU/Frame Gen from an amd gpu. Black Frame Insertion supported monitors for motion clarity of double the frame rate you're achieving.
More than one way to skin a cat these days to get results (and get more value out of your money)
Even a 5090 relies on these techniques to get the best 4K experience in a lot of games.
TLDR : My own views on this have changed from the beginning of the year, after owning both (still own a 9070xt + 5090 right now) I simply get excited by new tech/products/games more than I should and enjoy the anticipation a lot more than ownership I guess![]()
At least you're getting vastly more for your increased money in GPUs, it's like everyone has forgotten how simple and tiny GPUs used to be, compared to the gigantic bricks of silicon and coolers we have now.I miss the days of a top end GPU costing £3-400...... I also miss the days of Freddos costing 10p.. at least they've only gone up 3x though and not 8x![]()

A Freddo is still a Freddo. Probably smaller than it used to be![]()

At some point you won't get the same advancements.Yeah but tech scaling over time is supposed to happen. Performance per dollar (aka value) just seems to have largely stagnated these past ... 10? years.
Also, you're right about the Freddo - it's smaller![]()
At some point you won't get the same advancements.
Moreover, keeping the cards simpler, they'll also be a lot slower than they are today.
Yeah... technological stagnation is the reason.![]()
That doesn't mean much. You'll need the actual margin and net profit for the dedicated gaming/GPU sales which probably aren't publically available, but rather mixed with other areas.
Don't forget AMD was pushing the prices up as well, including in the CPU market once they've got their foot in. The reaction from AMD's fan base included even "so what, they deserve it!".
9070xt looks good on paper vs 5080 (a lot cheaper, about the same die size, same vRAM). The software + developer collaboration are, of course, also important and nVIDIA atm is in front. How you'd value that in the price?
Most importantly, can AMD do the $599 MSRP and really have the cards in store at that price in the long run? Are the margins healthy? We'll see with next gen, I guess.
You are looking at profits made during Crypto, Pandemic times and AI times, not just gaming during normal times.Good point. Let's use Net.![]()
Totally changes the picture and my point
Where did I say AMD aren't doing the same???
