Small & reliable £5k car suggestions

My mum loves her SEAT Mii (same car as VW UP and Skoda Citigo). Cheap insurance, incredible economy, easy to park and very reliable.

Belt driven though, so a very expensive service will roll around every so often (usually at the point where people sell them on!). Unlike the Toyotas and Hondas which are all chain driven.

It's an annoying thing if you want to do cheap motoring.

Civic is a belt done proper though .. I've never searched an explanation of how -
did they oversize oil filters to avoid blockage from belt residue which I thought was ecoboom's chicken and egg.

It’s a normal dry cambelt that’s been used for decades. What was the world waiting for you to figure out? That or a chain. The end.

[ and it didn't have the same problems as peugot/ford , so all belts aren't bad (as suggested) why hadn't p/f implemented it that way too - CT ]

it was a wet belt innovation pushed by a supplir for noise and friction benefits, Ford and Peugeot took the bait.

A bit like the Mercedes CLA and your obsession with it.

Clio 0.9 petrol or the 1.5 diesel 2012 - 2019 MK4 model come in to your budget. Cheap to tax, insure and run. Good cars but not favoured because they're french.

Definitely avoid the Fabia, my fiancée's was an absolute lemon and my trusted mechanic has told me a few horror stories about them - yet ironically he rates the Skoda Superb highly!

Has to be a jazz or Yaris surely.

You could go a Clio or Mégane diesel. The engines actually aren't that bad.

Dacia Sandero Stepway dCi, one for sale at a trader near me for under £4.3k. 2015 & £20 tax.
