The rise of Ozempic

Working out is also a temporary solution and is still cheating. If your going to an airconditioned gym and not actually chopping down trees with your bare hands and carrying your firewood back home. Your using tools to get an edge.
Those that think these drugs dont require any work are the same types that think you just inject steroids and grow.

In the context of gym and muscle growth sure, one still needs to work out to see results. But with weight loss drugs it's different no? You obviously will get better results if you exercise as well, but most people I know that have been on it, just literally do nothing and let the drugs mute their appetite. Just an observation.

I'm type 2 diabetic, and my GP has recommended I use it to help me deal with some of the nastier side effects of my current medication. I looked into it, and I can't afford it. The price has gone through the roof. I wouldn't class myself as obese, but I am very tall and well built. This medication would really help me control my diabetes. I heard tonight that 2 20 year old women are on it. They were a size 10 and now a size 6. They were recently on holiday, and couldn't enjoy any food - booze made them feel sick, and they had no energy. I am siimply disgusted that people who clearly do not need anything like this are able to obtain it and abuse it just because they can afford it, yet my GP cannot prescribe it.

What work do those jabs require then?
You still have to watch what you eat. You still have to get nutrients in. You can become more focussed on what goes in because your more conscious of it. Its not just a case of stopping eating. Thats easy i've been fasting most of my life. But having a chronic disease and medication means i put on weight and had high blood sugar. ALL my bloods are now back in the Healthy range. HBA1C 34 etc

2025 everyone wants the quick easy option.
What happens when they stop taking it? I assume the appetite comes back with a vengeance (and the fat)
The hope is that your eating habits have changed. Youve gotten used to eating smaller portions. Its not all about moving more and eating less. Some people out there can't do that and are a burden on the NHS. these drugs will help vastly reduce that burden.

Excuse my ignorance, but one can just buy this stuff rather than having to see a Dr to obtain it?

I was thinking that this is quite ground breaking in terms of making gastric bands obsolete, since that is more expensive and invasive surgery?

Hopefully it works that way. I know someone who had a gastric band fitted, lost a load of weight and is now fatter than they were before.
If it's a lack of willpower then I have my doubts anything will change for a lot of people.

Presumably the band was removed for them to return to eating more? Gastric band I thought was more a literal physical limitation of how much you can eat, as opposed to Ozempic et all being more of a chemical/mind trick where you could still eat shedloads if you wanted to?

Its not always willpower though. Like 2 guys going to the gym Both following identical routines and eating the same.. They will not grow at the same rate. Even if they have exactly the same willpower.

This is why i keep my MJ use private - away from the uneducated, "it's cheating!".

No, no it's not. These drugs don't make you lose weight, it's an appetite suppressant which makes you feel full. Ergo the food noise is turned off, you don't feel you need to eat as much and you can avoid the daily snacks and treats.

You still need to do some form of exercise, long walks etc. I myself am in the gym 3 - 4 times a week. Currently losing 1 stone per month.

So what happens when they stop the drugs?

You would normally slowly reduce your dose over time to zero, so it isn’t a cliff edge type of thing so in theory if you have changed your eating habits and your relationship with food it shouldn’t come as a shock.

It helps change your relationship with food for sure.. You defo care less about food.. I've not looked forward to a meal in ages. that oooh I'd love a big juicy steak, Just isn't there anymore. So because i care less about food I might as well eat a bit healthier. (although with my condition I still cant eat too healthy).

It hasn’t worked quite like that with me. I still enjoy food and look forward to a nice meal, I just don’t feel the need to eat as much. What has been transformative is that I have lost my addiction to sugar, people offer me cakes etc and I’m no longer interested in it.

Going to be an interesting test, I’m going on holiday for two weeks and not bringing the jab as I can’t be bothered trying to explain the jab to someone in Bali.

It'll be interesting to know if things like an addiction to sugars or fatty foods can be broken by the medication long enough so that it can continue on afterwards.
