Your bad driving encounters/irritations

I can't remember exactly when the UK adopted sub 1 second gap tailgating as the standard practice and fraction of a second aggressive tailgating as a common practice but it is really getting on my moobs.

I drive with ACC on most of the time set to the shortest follow distance and the gap between me and the car in front is at least triple that of about two thirds of the cars on the road. I don't hang about, especially when working, so as a minimum I'll have my cruise set to the speed limit, more often than not limit +5mph and when I'm in a hurry an indicated +10% +2mph yet even when I'm clearly making decent progress past cars some ding dong always feels the need to buzz up to my rear bumper in some attempt to pressure me into swerving into the braking gap between the cars I'm passing or somehow discover a way of vaporising my car so they can drive straight through it.

I don't because it is insanely dangerous but I can empathise with those who feel the need to give them a little flash of the brake lights to get them to back off. TBH the ACC in my car is a little quick to react to lane wanderers so I inadvertently end up doing that on occasion anyway which normally goes down well

On the M65 last night. Practically empty. Plenty of the MLOC out for a leisurely jaunt. One was occupying the over taking lane (3) @ indicated 70mph. There is a good gap in lane 2 (more than 12 seconds, IYKYK) but as I approach I get brake tested, twice. Flashed and they move over. Why did they need the prompt?

Because they are muppets..

It boggles my mind, same with people lazily cutting [especially blind] corners, a completely avoidable accident waiting to happen. How anyone can be that stupid just I can't compute.

I just lift my foot off throttle when I see them hurtling towards me. No brake check just gradual slowdown and it has worked.

OverClockers. (self deprecatory)

People abused their ACC toys, travelling closer together and eating into safety margin those give,
you just have to hope one of them isn't near you concentrating on something else if the **** hits the fan, or the chicken crosses the road.
Tailgaters on my local country roads, are more annoying , usually straight line heroes but their brains/cars don't allow them to negotiate bends/roundabouts (the fun bits) with the same zeal.

e:
... reaction+peak braking time increases with those ACC on, drivers - earlier linked study - 751->944ms
In both conditions, we measured the brake reaction time (BRT), the delay to produce the peak braking force (PBD), the total emergency braking response (BRT + PBD), and the peak braking force (PBF). Electromyograms of leg and thigh muscles were recorded during braking. The Tonic Vibratory Response (TVR), Hoffman reflex (HR), and M-waves were recorded in leg muscles to explore the change in the sensorimotor control. Results: No difference in PBF, TVR amplitude, HR latency, and Hmax/Mmax ratio were found between the Control and CC/ACC conditions. On the other hand, BRT and PBD were significantly lengthened in the CC/ACC condition (240 +/− 13 ms and 704 +/− 70 ms, respectively) compared to Control (183 +/− 7 ms and 568 +/− 36 ms, respectively)

I'm not sure you really can abuse ACC. As I say, I have mine on the shortest setting which is the only usable one really and the gap is massive compared to most people. Which is worrying because applying the highly scientific "only a fool breaks the two seconds rule" has the word rule level with my front wheel arch.

You can spot those using it because no matter how quick they are going once they come up behind the gap is kept to a sensible distance.

I've had a few people say to me that ACC is no good because it leaves too much of a gap which shows the general mentality these days.

I dunno what is going on with that - the minimum ACC setting in 1-2 cars is quite short but nothing like what people tailgate at, in many cars the minimum setting is a fair distance - but I've had several people tailgating me where it is obvious they are busy doing other things than driving and the car is 100% changing speed for them and the surprised reaction if for some reason we have to slow down rapidly.

Had a new BMW GS rider weaving through moving traffic on M62. I only noticed him in my every few seconds mirror check. All the cars were around 60 mph. If I had done my check a second or two earlier or later I would have missed him. Was not in my lane, I was in lane two and this stupidity was happening in Lane 3/4.

It is incredibly stupid to ride like a duck (typo intended) at that speed weaving through cars.

There is this whole debate about lane-splitting, etc. but in high speed traffic people should minimise lane changes and also lane-splitting when driving or riding - it is the cause of a large percentage of accidents in those situations.

I know mate. But this was literally cutting in left and right around every car. Extremely dangerous riding. The riders justifying such riding are just an accident waiting to happen.

I have seen both BMW GS and Ducati Multistrada riders on the same stretch ride this way. The common denominator being both are very expensive bikes mostly ridden by snobs.

I rode when I was younger and gave up because of the number of near-misses with other riders, mostly the 600-1000 crowd thinking they were Valentino..

ACC : video on some issues with acc comparing id7 & NIO , NIO looks pretty intolerable (?representative of Chinese) but ID7 makes mistakes too
(good dubbing)

this ones a comedy show too on emergency braking the BYD
e: if you didn't see the chinese videos posted in ev thread on emergency brakeing testing it's representative of those,
cars that try to stupidly circumnavigate an obstruction versus stopping

Long story short had someone tailgating me on a dual-carriageway clearly not paying attention with their car nearly clipping the verge twice, dropped my speed 15 MPH and they didn't get the hint, had to rapidly tap the brakes to eventually get them to go around me... gave them a bit of a stare as they passed and they wouldn't make eye contact but could tell by the way they looked they knew why I was remonstating... how are people this dumb...

We've had some fun and games with the driving assists on various what my colleague snarkly refers to as "TEMU brands" vehicles at work, the Maxus vehicles are pretty terrible when it comes to the implementation.
