SWMBO really wants one of these and has wanted one since they first came out in 2011. Anyone got any thoughts on the 2023 plate models onwards? Are they over the 2.0 diesel issues these days? The Hybrid looks interesting too. Anyone got any experience with them?
Thanks.

They are decent cars.

The earlier timing chain issues that got these engines a bad rep were addressed in a 2019 update.

Biggest piece of advice would be to avoid the recommended long life service intervals. I imagine the majority of issues will come down to poor maintenance. Same for any manufacturer, really.

No experience with hybrid but lived with both a D300 and D200 in other models and had no problems.

You’ll be warned off a 4 cylinder for the weight of the Evoque but I think it would be plenty for your wife.

My wife has had a hybrid Evoque for a couple years and before that, had two hybrid ePaces which are pretty similar (all company cars). None of them have had any issues despite what people say about them (perhaps shes been lucky). The 3 cyclinder engine in the hybrid is a bit agricultural when revving it some but otherwise combined with the electric motor it isnt too bad power wise. My only complaint about them apart from the fact I personally dont like SUVs is that the boot is pretty small, other than that they are pretty reasonable cars and they are quite comfortable and happy to crusie long distances. Sorry for the uninteresting overview, its not my kind of car but the wife likes it and thats all the counts at the end of the day

My wife was similar - always wanted one - managed to get one for a day as a test drive....

Glad she did - she didn't like it at all. Boot is very small for a car of that size. Leg room was none existant in the back for tall son. Even at lowest point of the seat, my head was touching the roof liner. I'm 6ft 3"....

Talked her out of it after this. At the time as well, the sales staff were a joke.... Trying to "upsell" everything from the model / engine / 21" wheels etc - just wouldn't listen at all to what we were looking for.

Despite us walking away they continued to hassle her via phone.... 6 calls in a single day. 4 the next day, 4 the day after. Just smacked of desperation. Had to go and speak to the manager in the showroom asking to stop calling. It was embarrassing to be honest the desperation from the sales guy.
