Came across this video today and I thought it was pretty cool so I thought I'd share -

I remember buying my first 3DFX card (And all the others that succeeded it, at least the ones I could afford... ) I had no idea that there were people out there designing voodoo cards still and I got to say those custom black PCB voodoo cards in the video look real sweet!

Seeing that Unreal benchmark and that weird default gun took me back, I wonder if that game is on steam or something? hmmm...

I ordered the Voodoo 2 8Mb in 2001 with my very 1st PC(to go with a Riva TNT2 M64)! But the guy at the shop who installed it, broke it the first day by installing it in the AGP slot!

Another company did add-on 3D cards - I think they were called Ageia - later nVidia bought them and killed the tech.

Epic took a big dive for me as a company, far too much up their own behinds in recent years.

Had an Obsidian Voodoo 1 back in the day, nice bit of hardware for the time.

I only had one 3DFX card, but it was the Voodoo 5 5500 AGP. What a card that was! Loved the box art as well.

Those were the days when the demand of the hardware to run games, especially next-generation, was steep.
Almost seemingly overnight, it went from a very capable top of the line video card to not being able to get anywhere near playable frame rates on the likes of Unreal 2, and, to a lesser degree, Project IGI 2.
And, IIRC, I think it struggled a bit with Morrowind, too.

It might have been something related to the transform, clipping, and lighting that was being supported by other vendors… can't remember.

I had a Voodoo 3 2000. I had a Riva TNT which made my combat flight sim lol better because it had 32bit colour if I recall. But it didn't support opengl which is what I mainly wanted for quake etc.

I had a Voodoo1 then a Voodoo2. Never had two for SLI though.
I was totally amazed when I first saw Tomb Raider and Quake running on the Voodoo1, smooth 'high res' graphics with coloured lighting, 16 bit colour. It was so much better than the pixelated, limited colour software rendered games.

I still have my voodoo 1 in the loft I think and it still worked last time I used it (likely 25 years ago). I had an OEM version with 4MB ram which I think I purchased in 1997.

Tomb Raider, Quake, Grand Theft Auto and Metal Gear Solid all looked amazing with their respective 3dfx versions. Great times.

I had a voodoo rush... company I worked for was into graphics/cad workstations back in the mid 90s and we imported a few to explore whether there'd be a market for them.
