Felt like trying some canned veg today, for example:

The storage section of the label says:
Storage
Unopened: Store in a cool, dry place.
Opened: Transfer unused contents into a suitable, non-metallic container; cover and refrigerate. Use within 2 days.
For best before end: see end of can

What's the reason behind that?

For me the natural thing to do would be open the can, use half, put can in fridge, use other half tomorrow.

My wife always said it's because the contents can start to taste bad / metallic if you leave it in an open can.

As a result we've never done it, so not sure if that's true or how long it takes.

Think it's just a case of maintaining the freshness. Whether it makes any difference over two days I've no idea, but there's a simple way to find out.

I was brought up The same, if you open a can you always put any remaining food into a bowl.

Iirc the reason was it was either the metallic taste or back in the 60's or 70's the lining inside the tin could oxidise in contact with air.

Why?

I genuinely don't understand what would drive anyone to buy limp, soggy, bland processed ****e like that when you can buy fresh carrots absolutely anywhere, for peanuts, which taste better and are far better for you. Why do you hate you own body so much?

You can even just slam them in a microwave if you want to pretend to be a total degenerate.

There is only one thing worse than buying tinned vegetables

and thats buying a tinned chicken and then opening it, and letting it and all its slime juices slide out of the tin.

Frozen veg is "bland" but 500x better if you CBA with fresh....
