I'm looking for a big RPG game, love final fantasy, tales series, dragon quest and various other turn based RPGs.

Didn't like metaphor and I'm struggling with expedition 33.

I can get it for £10 on cdkeys and heard it's meant to be pretty good.

Bit of a steal for £10.

I'm a big fan of Persona and the SMT games, but they can be a bit marmite.

Persona 5 is one of the best games ever made imo, amazing soundtrack and a brilliant story + cast of characters coupled with fantastic dungeon crawling and turn based combat. That said, there are a lot of social aspects and the time between being able to save can be hefty, it's not the sort of game you can realistically sit down and play for an hour or so. Your first playthrough will run you around the 90-120 hour mark and you probably wont manage to see and do everything there is to experience.

It's also worth noting that the first 4-6 hours are pretty much the intro, you wont have a lot of agency until after that point but the game opens up a lot afterwards.

For a tenner it's definitely worth a punt, it used to be on games pass too if you happen to have that and want to test the waters.

If you want something with fewer social aspects and more combat focused, check out the Shin Megami Tensei series, same developers and similar gameplay/themes, they can be hard as hell however to forewarn.

A small tip for starting out without giving away any spoilers:

While it's not strictly necessary, improve your social standing with the doctor early on. Once you gain a few ranks you'll gain access to an accessory which can regenerate your SP (sorta like mana) while in dungeons, the higher the rank you have with her the better the available regen accessory in her shop will be. It'll give you much better longevity in them before needing to leave, which in turn gives you much more time to do other things. There's a few other methods to help you gain more time per day but you'll figure that out/unlock it simply by playing.

Managed to play an hour, very colourful and nice anime scenes. Intro was pretty cool and vibey. Quite a long period before i could save, hopefullyy it doesnt get worse than that as sometimes i only get to game for a half hour.

I'd like jrpgs more if they could not include kids or teenagers to be honest. It's why I didn't go on with this or well actually any of them.

There are some with more mature casts, Expedition 33 is one of the most recent examples and I must admit it's a big selling point for me.

There are some, Vagrant Story, I think the second Xenoblade game. Most are focused on younger people unfortunately and can get a little weird, as much as I love Persona the hashed in dating aspects are things I ignore. FF16 I loved despite many finding it so-so, the cast was brilliant and largely 20's to middle aged after the intro. Like a Dragon from the Yakuza franchise might fit the bill as a brilliant TB JRPG with a middle aged cast, but it can be very weird/whacky to the point it's off-putting. That said, the core story is quite deep and very enjoyable if you can ignore or don't care about those elements.

If you can leave it running and come back to it, you'll be fine. There are periods where you can go 2-3 hours between being able to save however, they're not super common but they do happen.

The game doesn't exactly require a lot of power to run mind, I play it at 4K on my TV and it barely uses a 4070/5800X3D combo and is very stable so it's not like you're peeing away electricity.
