Interesting to look back at how a post from a week ago ages in the Amorim world. It looks more cohesive and more urgent this season but without much real quality in the final third. We have to hope that Cunha, Mbeumo and possibly Sesko are too good to misfire for a whole season. In fairness he hasn't been able to play all three of them together for a half or full game yet.
I'm hoping he can find a more settled starting 11 to really make those connections. The team is constantly changing and I still don't think he knows his best 11.
I suspect its.
Lammens
Martinez - De Ligt - Yoro
Dorgu - Fernandes - Ugarte - Amad
Cunha - Sesko - Mbuemo
Mazraoui is a very good footballer but he's much better at LCB. He loves Dalot and Mount and I get why but they aren't really a good fit for this formation imo.
7 points from 15 is par performance given the fixtures but he has to coach 3/4 wins in a row to build confidence in the players and the fans.
TLDR: not very well
I think we have reached a point we are all too familiar with. The point where the coach is living more in hope than expectation. The hope that things will magically click, like maybe he sees in training and all goes well.
We didn't quite see the 11 I suggested above but enough of it to understand that it didn't work at all and most fans will see that asking Bruno Fernandes to anchor a midfield with Ugarte is pure folly and it is affecting the game of who has been our best player. Of course Mainoo comes on and causes the third goal which possibly confirms Amorims opinion that " he ain't all that".
After this many games, free weeks of training I don't think it's unreasonable to expect better. What we are getting is less consistent that any previous manager and is extinguishing hope of a turnaround. I sense he has lost the fan base and there is no way back from that point. When ten Hag identified Maguire as surplus he wasn't wrong, when Mourinho identified Shaw as low IQ, he wasn't wrong. Yet Ruben has opted to continue with these players and in a less forgiving system.
I'm afraid it's on his head.
