England women are the 2025 Rugby Union World Cup Champions

I love rugby. I also have limited time to watch it. Im not going to spend my limited time watching what is fundamentally a lower level of sport than the mens game.

Same goes for most sports. The men's games are faster and more physical.

I don't enjoy watching (or playing) rugby. Men or women. Either way, still an achievement on behalf of the nation so well done to them.

Cant find a thread in the sports section even though there is comments in the rugby thread.
So instead make a post in GD to call out users for:
misogynistic crew

I can not think of anything else I am less interested in than ball sports, male or female.
Thank you for a good laugh this sunday though, needed it.

Cheers. :D

Watched it while playing Dragonage for extra frothing credibility. Well done ladies!

I prefer the hopeful opinions that they'll get more recognition, more customers and more money. Normal expectations for any business, which of course it is.

And not the ones which pitch it as insulting that the audience for the mens sport have not transplanted/duplicated their attention/money into the womens sport.

I dislike rugby regardless of what gender is playing it, with that said...

I think the problem with women's rugby, cricket and even still football to a certain extent is that the quality is still quite low. The reason for this is that the games have only gone 'professional' in relatively recent times, the leagues etc are still in their infancy. As the popularity increases, more money flows into the sport, the talent pool increases, facilities improve, and the overall standard of the women's game increases.

Take a look at women's football, it's still not great and lacks the intensity of the men's game, but if you compare it to a decade or so ago, the standard has gone through the roof, and it's all because of the increased exposure and money coming into the game relative to before. Women's rugby and cricket feel like they are at the stage that women's football was at 2 decades ago.

Tennis is a good example of women's sport done right imo, hence why the female players can earn very good money and I can happily watch matches due to the skill level being more than good enough to entertain.

I didn't even know to be honest.

With the Women's Euros win it was absolutely everywhere, but you have to scroll down a lot to find an article on this on BBC Sport which is odd.

Well played, ladies.

I barely watch sports on TV. Maybe a few hours a year. I barely watch TV at all! I'm not interested in the sports pages in newspapers. Had it not been for this thread I wouldn't have known about it.

So thank you for sharing it. But I I don't appreciate the tarring of being misogynistic because I don't care about it.

I thought they did great and well deserved win. However the tournament has been atrocious tbh. In the group stages it's forgivable to have that amount of one-sided score lines - this happens in the men's and the quality of teams can be diverse. However every game I tried to watch in the knockouts was the exact same and watching a team getting pounded for 80 mins is no fun (apart from Wales/Scotland). The idea is that it's supposed to be a exciting competition.

Perhaps I was harsh in my assessment but again a bit surprised at the lack of reaction even in a very predominantly male forum.
Perhaps also it is still early in the evolution of women's rugby for there to be to much notice taken. Hopefully this will improve as per the football leagues today. It is important that women and girls don't give up sport due to lack of facility or ambition.
Physicality will never match the mens game and nor should it, women have different physiques. The comparison is between professional teams from different countries or clubs, not between teams of different sexes in the same country or league. Maybe U16 lads are stronger and faster mainly due to differences from puberty which I shall not go into here, but more interesting and watchable I don't agree. Elite sport is elite sport in track, field, individual and team efforts and should be applauded and supported regardless of the competitors sex or even ability in the case of para sports.

I get it but are you also not surprised? It's going to take a while for the shift or the interest but also the demographic in this forum is hugely disproportionate to the country.

Let's not forget Twickenham was at capacity. Also my LinkedIn feed has a lot of it plastered there. 33 game winning streak and some great show of skill.

The women's rugby is different to men's but that doesn't mean it's bad, people have different interests and what gets them excited. I don't think it's down to sexism but just down to what you're used to.

I think being sad/upset because it wasn't posted on a male dominated forum isn't endemic, it’s just not something people here are tuned into unless someone brings it up.

Got to wonder that, if you were REALLY that bothered about it, you would have posted about it 2 days ago when they won... Ho--hum :)

I must be honest, I was quite surprised that there was no mention of it at all on the radio this morning. Nothing. Not even a little snippet.
