Why? If that happens anywhere else on the pitch, it's only a foul if there's excessive force used, and there clearly wasn't there.
Gyokeres touches the ball into Pope's foot, and then there's contact between the players
He impedes him from getting to the ball. A glancing touch doesn't make any difference and it hasn't for years.
He doesn't, though. He diverts the ball 90 degrees. If Gyokeres keeps running straight he ends up nowhere near the ball after its diversion
Course he does he knocks his knee. If he didn't he would have got to the ball.
Its about thresholds though isn't it. Middle of park, no one gives a ****. Chance to score from 12 yards out from that, very debatable. And its better to be cautious and not give it imo. Settle the game without dubious decisions.

If Gyok didn't dive he'd have got the ball aswell. The ref musnt have seen Pope's touch on the ball in real time so changed his decision.
But the ball has been massively diverted. Yes, he might still get to that, but to do so he'd have had to stop his run and pretty much turn around.
If you're going to give that, you need to give as a foul every tackle where the tackled player ends up on the deck regardless of where the ball ends up.
I agree that if the ball had glanced off Pope and kept going straight so Gyokeres is still running onto it, it's a penalty. But that isn't what happened.
Knee to knee contact at a decent pace is always going to end up with him on the floor.
