EV general discussion

New Leaf IIRC is based on the same platform (CMF-EV) as the Ariya and has a fair bit larger footprint than the Juke, though it is a semi-crossover.

Leaf is 150mm longer same width.

EDIT: Oh and 40mm shorter in height.

Might be wrong but pretty sure the new 2026 Leaf is 28cm longer than the Juke. (EDIT: Wiki does say 4350 for the new one, for some reason I was thinking it was close to 4500).

On a somewhat related note been invited to a Leaf/Micra event LOLs:

As I won't be buying either new don't think I'll bother with it though.

I really don't like the new Leaf. Sadly they joined everyone else and made it a SUV and despite being bigger than my Gen 2 Leaf it has worse rear headroom and only a 2 litre larger boot although it looks a lot smaller with that false floor in place. By all accounts the rear visibility is terrible probably because of that awful looking apoiler they have built into the boot lid. The seats look ok and the dash isn't too bad for a modern EV but the cars proportions all look wrong. Look at it from the side and it looks too high for it's length, it looks like the front and rear have been squeezed together and pushed the roofline upwards. I hate the push button drive selection as well and much prefer the selector in my Leaf. I can't see it competing as it's likely to be overpriced (prices expected to be £29.5k-£40k) and there are far better alternatives available now. I certainly won't be looking at one when the time comes to replace my gen 2.

Highly unlikely if it is competing with the EV3, ID.3, Puma, the Megane to name a few, small battery version will have loads of competition at the sub £30k mark.

£24.5k for a Megane on New car discount.
Most websites seem to predict it will start between £30k and £35k and rise to £40k+ for the big battery version. Pricing in the US is $30k so with our VAT and duties I can see it not being far off £35k.

Original leaf had a battery pack with some rear footwell profiling, so helped get away with more saloon like form too - budgets don't run to that now;
.. are modern battery packs lower than it's minimum though;
maybe redemption with the shallow pack on upcoming 3er NK

Book a test drive of a Skoda Enyaq for tomorrow morning. Had intended on an Elroq but the boot is too small for our needs.

Originally, I was looking at PCP but I think I'll go down the contract hire route. I don't need to option to purchase as I don't want to.

The spec I've gone with comes to £51,850 which they've quoted as £555 per month and £1800 up front. It's a business contract hire but I can't claim the VAT back so they are gross figures.

Is that because you've gone for a high end version of the Enyaq? They are much cheaper than that (bare bones) off leasing sites

When I enter the criteria I'm after 3+36 months, 12K mileage and a Sportline 85 they're not far off the price I've been quoted.

And yes, adding extras does seem to make it creep up. 21" alloys, pan roof, winter pack, the tech stuff with HUD.

I'm early stages - I know going for the deal can be better than going for the car so will look for other options. The one thing I need is EV, long range and a big boot with height. The slopey rear boots in some SUVs aren't suitable.

I know the struggle, EVs with big boots are surprisingly hard to find!

I went for the Tavascan for this reason, almost went for the Enyaq (basically the same). Still not a big boot really, but big enough and has worked out well with long trip holidays down west with a child.

Have I done the maths correctly? £21,780 to hire a car for 3 years :eek:
Less 26% corporation tax, less the £3,852 I would pay in Jaguar extended warranty over 36 months (current car company owned) plus £1,133 P11D costs over the next 3 years.

I'd say more like £13,398 net over 3 years. Unfortunately, I can't claim the VAT back.

I'll have a look again at the Tavascan. I did look at them before but felt boot might be a bit small for us.

How much do you think depreciation is over the same 3years ?
I don't particularly care to be honest! I know the point you're making and I know Edd is planning to write it off from a tax perspective. In isolation who in the mother of god is going to pay 22K of their own money to hire a car for 3 years ? :p

I am still working so can't check - surely buying a similar car 1 or 2 years old is where the smart money goes, or am I missing something?

anyone swapped their EV-rated tyres for "non-EV" tyres?
Also acoustic vs non-acoustic?
not a lot of information out there, and whatever there is, basically just FUD/adverts

any difference with tyre lifespan/range/acoustics?

just looking at prices, Tesla PS4 acoustic is crazy expensive, "normal" goodyear F1A6 XL is less than 2/3 of the price

How much mileage do you do on average each day? Given the deals on the 60 SE L atm wouldn't it be worth sucking up the inconvenience on the odd time you do a longer journey? Save a fair whack if so

EV tyres do have different construction and compounds but you can fit any tire as long as it’s the same size, speed and load rating. YMMV and all that.

I don’t think Tesla fit PS4’s to their new cars anymore. My Y came with Hankook I can’t remember what the new Model 3 comes with but it’s not PS4’s.l

Lots of Model 3 owners fit cross climates
