General Headphone Audio

Yeah nothing comes close to Spotify for me for finding new music - Pandora I think it was before it had to stop serving the UK used to be good in that respect, but I don't find anything else as good.

It would have been a compromise with Spotify if the quality of the mastered files and the quality of Vorbis 320 in the Very high setting wasn't so good, but as it stands Lossless is IMO just a bonus on top at no extra cost and from everything I am reading so far, apart from a few nitpicks within teh audiophile segment, most can't even tell the difference anyway lol, so I suspect people will continue to moan for a little longer before it all settles down and SPotify will just remain the best platyform to find new music basically on a daily basis.

They even removed millions of AI generated songs from the recent backlash so at least they are taking criticism onboard.

I will still have my local music in FLAC for the times I do want to listen bit-perfect, otherwise all other listening, even hifi, is Spotify.

Yeah they are basically tackling people who daily upload AI slop and essentially abusing the royalty system by just endlessly uploading carelessly produced ****.

Someone on reddit is saying I am lying because I said that both the DX5 II and K13 R2R have different sound signatures, apparently I heard not even a "smidge" of difference between them.

Why are some people so narrow?

Edit* Asked if they are on ASR forums, no answer, I guess that answers that then, absolutely typical.

As touched on recently in this thread a lot can impact on the perception of audio hardware, one person's experience can vary wildly for example all the people calling the HD600s **** because they've never experienced them on a suitable amp or people's perception of different DACs due to the same processor being paired up with different output opamp drivers. Some headphones are so impactful on the sound signature they will largely mask the difference between DACs which aren't massively different in signature, etc.

I had the same from a bunch of people downvoting and telling me there wasn't a difference between the k15 and my old dac.
I think a lot of people will probably just have heard a couple of entry level bits of kit, heard no difference between them and then also parrot what they read online that matches their experience.
Even when there are differences they are fairly minor and as said may not be obvious on some headphones.
Some people may also just genuinely not notice those small differences or put them down to placebo.

Others massively overstate and exaggerate differences heard and reject the idea of placebo and confirmation bias though so it goes both ways.

In some good news though, Lossless on Spotify just showed up for me this morning, finally!

Edit*

FiiO has also confirmed that theK13 R2R has its USB ports power pins connected to the PCB, so the use of a USB power isolator like iDefender may be needed if your system has noise transfer from a PC. The X9 does not have the USB power pins connected so one is not needed.

That seems strange, did they say why it has the power pins connected? It's not like you can power it from the USB port.

I've had people call me out for imagining the PS5 Pro USB volume and that it must be DAC related. I think Reddit can just be a hostile place at times.

No Spotify Lossless here (Windows).

Also the K13 USB Port power - is that different from other Fiio DAC/AMPs?

No other detail other than yes connected, I suspect that all of FiiO's DACs with USB have the power pins connected to the PCB as well

Yes!, finally have Lossless on Spotify, and bit perfect for me on my DAP at least as it bypass's androids stock audio processing, GoldenSound should have mentioned that in his recent video actually as a way of getting bit perfect lossless on android, just need WASAPI exclusive mode now for windows and we're done.

Just had my first bug with the K15, I turned it on and it refused to output anything from any output, when changing between po and pre the volume level on the display didn't change to the last used levels but the output indicator did. Turning the device off and on from the front dial did not resolve it, the device had to be unplugged from the wall and plugged back in before it recovered. Seems a bunch of people are having other different bugs on head-fi aswell.

It seems the only bug free device is my Xduoo XA-02 lol

(but lacking those features that has gone wrong in others)

Yeah, the "smarter" things get, the more issues they seem to have. A decade with a "dumb" DAC and had 0 issues.

I just checked the data stats in Windows and on an average week I barely break 3GB from Spotify, so I suspect this to sky rocket now with lossless enabled

Interesting that you can see the bit depth of each file playing, most seem to be 16bit, but there are plenty of 24bit as well:

According to the Ubquiti Dream Router we have done 98MB on Spotify between four users since Sept 1st. But 1.19TB in overall data bandwidth in the same time period. And most of that is just video streaming from Amazon Prime, Netflix, Youtube etc. etc. Gaming downloads accounted for less the 50MB. So I don't think Spotify streaming is going to push those numbers much. But it's lucky we aren't metered!

On the subject of Spotify, is there a way for the cursor to follow the playlist? As in once the playing track is no longer visible, it will automatically scroll to the current song without needing to scroll down to find it?

edit: Found a workaround. Not automatic but better than nothing.
In the desktop app, the functionality is still available, but it's located somewhere else. When you click on the album artwork in the bottom-left corner of the app, it will open the Now Playing View in the right panel. If you click the playlist title above the enhanced artwork in that panel, it will lead you to the position of the currently playing song within the playlist.
