Sold 5090 On eBay - Buyer says its faulty

I will be recording the package being opened and inspected. I’ll check for physical damage and for the serial number and of course I’ll check for the card being the right brand etc.

I’m not sure where the line is drawn by eBay on what constitutes a seller being backed in the returns process when there is an obvious attempt to defraud.

I spoke to the shop this morning that the buyer took the device to. He told me they don’t sell motherboards on eBay any longer as they had too may returned with bent pins.
 
The fact they actually let you know
The name,address etc of the computer shop
At least shows they didn't make that part up at least

Though doesn't mean they didn't break it
Before going to a pc shop

Going by some of the stuff my mate got away with
Which admittedly was a few years ago now
But then at least ebay sided heavily with the buyer
This was also my experience
And why I stopped selling computer stuff on ebay

Only time ebay sided with me (I was the buyer)
I bought a very high end psu for an absolute bargain
As no one else bid
And had no reserve on it
What turned up was the correct psu box
But had an absolute ###### of a psu inside it
The reason I won the dispute was because of the weight
His proof of postage showed something like 2kg
The proper psu weighed about 5kg
Pretty cut and dried case

All the other times I was the seller
And lost every time
Though the items weren't 5090 value
Mostly laptops that I bought in bulk and repaired
Then resold
So I didn't really end up out of pocket
It just got to be so annoying I gave up selling

The reason you didn't realise we have a MM
It's invisible until you qualify
Then it just appears at the bottom of the forums main page
 
This sucks and I hope you get a working card back and this is all just a mistake, although I'd hope the shop knows what they're doing but you never know!

I was thinking of doing some calculated buying and selling of PC parts myself but threads like this remind me I should just keep what I have and not risk the messing around. :( granted, the package could have been x rayed and damaged it in transit but someone is going to lose out here I can guess. Hopefully it's not yourself and it's the insurance company!

I had some gimp return a PS Vita card that wasn't working and it wasn't the same card I sold them and was indeed faulty. They messed up and posted it outside the eBay return postage so there was no tracking and I just said it never turned up and they never chased it in the end. As far as I know they gave up and after the initial complaint, they never chased it. The cheeky chuff even sent me a WhatsApp video of them showing it not working in their Vita.

If they did end up getting a refund then at least I knew what they looked like, the dumb idiot.

Get your post count to 1,000
And use our MM
You're already half way there
Then you can buy and sell safely in here instead
 
yeah i personally cant wait to get access to the mm just out of interest even if i never end up buying anything at least I would know what everyones going on about with half the threads refering to something on the mm LOL!
ok and i might want a second gpu for lsfg but hey thats just me lol
 
The shop has very good reputation. I spoke to the owner today and I’m expecting the worst. Very knowledgable guy.

He’s pretty sure the person tested it on the graphics card testing pc which is an AM5 platform.

I’ll wait until I get it back.

Hoping for the best for you. I got shafted by ebay and royal mail a while back and it still haunts me to this day.

We are just speculating though obviously
If it didn't work in the pc shop
That's not good news especially if the shop
Has a good reputation

But could be anything from a minor problem
Up to they removed the vram and gpu die
Which you wouldn't know without disassembling the card
As doubt that would reduce the weight enough
To tell unless had very accurate scales
Or it had an anti tamper seal on it
 
Anything valuable or sort after is also highly scammable which is why you don't sell these on eBay sell it on private forums like these or AVforums at least you can be certain people know what they're doing not some numpty who has to take it to a shop to fit the card which hopefully is the case here sounds like they don't have the right 12pin connector or the PSU isn't up to the job of powering it. Even CEX isn't inviolate I've sold them a couple of card but they rejected my last saying they couldn't get it working, likely due to it requiring 3x PCI-e connectors which they didn't have. Anyway after collecting it sold it on private forum with no problem.

I have made posts there and the count didnt go up. I even made a thread somewhere else and the posts didnt count :)
 
Did you photo the whole rear of the card? Should have a warranty sticker on a heatsink screw which should prove/disprove them taking it apart when you get it back.

If I sell via ebay I literally photograph the whole lot, with a sheet of paper of the item number, serial, username, purchase price etc and it next to the item in question.

Luckily never had to use it so I can't tell you if that even helps your case but always do it as a precaution.

That's what I do, I have camera mounted in the room I pack things, which is also where my pc is located, so I have months of evidence if needs be. I'm fine with eBay but evidence with expensive things is a must - eBay is just a market place, one still has to protect themselves from scammers or just not very smart people. Example is with airtag which I sold a few months back and then buyer claiming it can't be closed. Sent them manual, they claim they same. They returned it, it's all physically broken as they didn't know how to open and close the battery lid, but eBay refunded me fully instantly with apology upon showing them evidence, especially that they force insure all purchases these days, so they can recover monies easily from their insurance too.

That sounds most likely. But my advice is also to check the GPU carefully if it's not turning on, to be sure indeed nobody desoldered the chip etc. - these are still sought after in China and there's whole big smuggling market.
