Electronic Arts to go private

So a company known for charging a lot and having lots of extras to buy now also needs to make money for shareholders as well. Anyone sense price increases?

No more gay characters / relationships in any EA games going forward. Wouldn't surprise me if there were no more lead female protagonist's in EA games going forward.

People buying EA games will be sending their money to both Trumps family and also the oppressive regime who cuts people up who criticise them.

Not that any of that will matter to most gamers I expect.

I’m not sure who you think owned EA pre-takeover if it wasn’t shareholders…

Doh I misread the article, I thought it was private and went public as that seems to be the norm, but this was the other way

But in either case, there would be shareholders which need to make a return on their investment.

The only fundamental difference in this regard between public and private is if the shares are traded on a public stock exchange.

I've just asked for a refund, I wont be buying their games again.

Bit gutted to be honest.

You pay to the Saudi regime regardless.

Arms deals, defence contracts, development funds.

Anyhow, they won't be getting rid of any of that, this is just another form of washing for them where they can point and say look at how good we are whilst parading those very things you mentioned.

This is a leveraged buyout, which from my understanding means that EA is getting saddled with debt of buying themselves.

Makes me wonder is this a sign that EA sees turbulent times ahead and key people are taking this as an opportunity to cash out. Or is there really profitable times ahead and some people wanted an in.

Either way I won't be giving EA any money going forward. Mad to think that it was the Saudis who were complicit in the 9/11 attacks and now they are teaming up with the son in law of the President of the USA to buy one of the biggest game studios in America / the world.

Can someone please help me decide what to do. I made a big deal about boycotting steam and or certain payment processors because you know they shouldn't be allowed to force age verification and I did a lot of virtue signalling about it all.
However, I really want to play Battlefield 6 and other EA Games in future, but then I will be giving money direct to an oppressive regime!!!

At what point do I have to admit my hypocrisy?

You go public to grow fast with external funding, you go private once you're rich and can afford to cut out all those other people. They might have to be in debt to buy back their own shares, but the fact you can borrow tons of money to do that generally indicates health of the business.

Being private will probably bring good things for them and gamers, like with valve they can focus on long term profits and growing a good relationship with customers, and not just cash grabs where they buy up nice IPs and then destroy them with mediocre development for the immediate gains. The fiscal responsibility to shareholders to do what's in their best interest (more money, now) is usually toxic.

There's also a lot of DEI and public perception rubbish tied to being public, so things that are based on ideology they had to suffer, they can get rid of, and operate as a more lean company with goals more in line with the gamers who buy their products.

Changes wont happen overnight but this is almost certainly a good thing for everyone.
