Hello,

I picked up the remnants of an old PC build from a friend and thought I would see if I could make use of it.
There is a case with several fans, a PSU, a GTX1080 GPU and an SSD which I'm told are all working.
The motherboard and CPU are still in there but I'm told they do not work.
The RAM is 64GB of DDR3 and he said to replace it as it's old.
I've been looking at tutorials but was wondering what can I do with it for around £500 and which MB, CPU and RAM I should get.
As long as I can get it up and running I can look at more internal storage and possibly a GPU upgrade further down the line.

I have a Windows license on another desktop... can that be transferred?

Many thanks.

The APU route might be viable with that budget:

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £400.91 (includes delivery: £7.99)

You can transfer your Windows licence so long as the licence is a retail licence, if it's an OEM (like ones you get with Dell's, HP's etc) it can't be transferred. However if you shop around for Windows Keys you can find on a number of places and their pretty cheap.

As you have a GTX1080 I went for a Ryzen 7600x cpu. You didn't say what size the case is so I went with a Micro-ATX motherboard, if the case is full size you could always replace it with a similarly priced ATX board. The cheaper 6000mhz C30 memory kits which are the perfect choice for Ryzen cpu's are now out of stock on here so I included the next cheapest. The cooler is excellent "bang for buck" and is more than enough to keep a 7600x cool. Shopping around is the thing to do though as you could find the same components for less (especially the memory) elsewhere.

What make and model is the psu that you have inherited?

I'm collecting it at some point today so I'll check the PSU and case size.
