Imgur has blocked the UK

Please don't delete imgur accounts just yet, we're looking to see if we can retrieve images that have already been posted and add them as attachments. That relies on the source image still being there.

We're also looking at enabling image uploads here. No promises, but it's the logical step.

That would be great, even if it was just signatures for now.

The thing about this bloody stupid system that winds me up, is it was meant to block pornsites for kids, (ok whatever).

I just did a timed test, and using a standard google search without any VPN, I was able to find hardcore porn without age verification in about 90 seconds. (Hosted by sites without a uk presence)

So it protects absolutely nothing, and just subjects everybody else to an annoying set of roadblocks, whilst achieving practically zero in terms of protecting kids.

There are plenty of sites that are similar to the Black and Orange one that aren't blocked. This legislation is half baked and poorly implemented.

That sounds like a worthy experiment!

Yup, it's exactly like the mandatory cookie warning.

So now instead of just being able to access a site, I have the options of:

Accessing the site with cookies after clicking Accept
Accessing the site without cookies after unticking 48 billion options
Paying to access the site without cookies

So on 90% of sites (because like **** am I paying to read some **** "news" article) I still end up with the same cookies, but have to jump through an extra hoop to access the content.

FYI Tor browser can also be used to access and login to your Imgur accounts :)

This doesnt help much for other people trying to view your posted images of course.

I do actually wonder if anybody has used that pay to reject cookies option for a news website (lol). It sounds absolutely absurd to me personally.

@Rilot so it's still supposed to be viewable in the UK and however they've blocked uploading/signing in has messed everything else up?

As a side note, it's the a way to quote quotes? I tried replying to your message but it just gives nothing as it's just a quote.

It’s annoying but meh. Imgur was already annoying with me by being difficult to get image links on a mobile device.

90 seconds to find a video of a girl being turned into a plasterers cat,

I’ll buy that for a dollar!

This wont be the last. The OSA is a disaster and really badly thought through. All the thought gone into silencing parents who cant manage their childrens habits, and no concern for all the implications of it.

I wonder how long until my foxyproxy mask list fills the screen.

But there are no hoops to jump through. They removed all adult content and don't even allow partial nudity any more. They have literally nothing to worry about.

I think there are still plenty of hoops for them to jump through still when you actually start looking at the ACOP for user to user services from Ofcom, especially if Imgur reaches the threshold to be considered a 'large service' - it's not necessarily enough to simply be removing adult content.

I been using postimg recently anyway, after someone suggested it to me, seems superior to imgur, but yeah allowing attachments is a good step as third parties is always a risk of content going *poof*. Plus other media providers might follow the same path now.
