Electronic Arts to go private

You live in a very small world if you think this.

99% of gamers don't give a fudge who owns the studio/publishers (me included). If the game is good and their mates play it then they will buy it.
Good thing I am not the 99% of gamers then

The games industry has gone down the toilet. Especially the AAA sector.

People are buying PCs to play old games on. Studios are going bust because they can't sell enough copies. A crash might not be a bad thing at this point.

I've thought this for a while. A hard reset

Or the more real answer is people are spending shed loads of money on live service games and less on standalone titles.

Good standalone games still do very well, they just cost insane amounts of money to develop.

100% accurate, I can't stand most new games tbh and end up playing classics from like 5-10 years ago.

Wait did they really publish all them great games? Command & Conquer for example was developed by Westwood and originally published by Virgin Interactive until EA took over the rights in 1998 I think.
Same with Sim City that was Maxis.

Yup, they acquired IPs rather than created them, for the most part. Never forgave them for dismantling Westwood and destroying Bioware and haven't bought one of their games for over a decade. Not sure how this takeover will shake out, but it's going to take a lot to persuade me to change my stance on EA.

Not a huge fan of EA anyway with the way they've treated proper, genuinely creative and outstanding studios over the years, Maxis, Westwood stand out the most for me, I fear for Codemasters now they're part of EA as well.

I buy the odd thing but its a long time since I stopped buying the annual re-skins of F1, Fifa/FC, etc - will probably still buy BF6 though....

Generally aside from my Switch 2 I don't play that many new games these days anyway; I've found myself playing a lot of PS2 stuff, I really look forward a time when there's really good X360/PS3 emulation on mobile!

We all complain more and more on certain things in the gaming world, but the fact of the matter is money is number one focus now over creativity, mainly due to all the corporations sticking their fingers in the pie, who know nothing about gaming or have any interest in it apart from the fact it makes money, just look at the people buying out EA.
Money has always played a big part, but back in the day, I guess we can call it the golden era of gaming creativity was still the number one focus over making loads of money at the expense of actually making games that people will enjoy.

I much prefer the EA of yesteryear - desert strike, marble madness, battle chess, c&c, redalert, risky woods, syndicate, theme park, simcity, hi-octane, battlefield 2. Damn EA published some incredible games.

Such a shame, I remember as a kid, seeing an EA logo on the side of a Mega Drive or SNES box, generally meant you had your hands on a good game.

100%

I remember Amiga games and specifically looking for Electronic Arts, Psygnosis, Virgin, Gremlin, Taito, Acclaim, Acid software, Team 17, Activision, Infogrames, 21st Century Entertainment, Rainbow Arts, Traveller's Tales, Renegade Software, Microprose. I think a couple of those might be developers rather than the publisher (maybe they're both?), but either way you knew it was going to be a great game.
