Have Imgur posted any sort of explanation, yet?

Thank you for reaching out regarding your recent issues regarding uploading via our API, we understand how important your images are, including accessing and/or uploading them via our API, especially when you have important ones stored there.
Imgur at this time will no longer be able to provide uploading and/or signing in functions within your designated region (United Kingdom). You can still access Imgur.com but you may experience higher than average error 400 (Cannot serve this region) requests.
Kind regards

No explanation, but if you reach out to their support they reply with this:Have Imgur posted any sort of explanation, yet?

Hey there,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience. We understand how frustrating it must be to suddenly be unable to access your images on Imgur, especially when you have so many important ones stored there.
At this time, Imgur does not support upload or sign in functions within your geographical region. You are more than welcome to browse Imgur, however, as a result of the above you will experience sporadic errors anytime you interact with the platform.
We do not know at this time if we will support such functionality in the future.
We are aware of reports that the social media platform Imgur is currently not available in the UK. Imgur's decision to restrict access in the UK is a commercial decision taken by the company.
Earlier this year, as part of an update on our Children’s code strategy, we announced an investigation into MediaLab AI Inc (MediaLab). The investigation relates to how MediaLab’s Imgur social media platform uses children’s information and its approach to age assurance.
Tim Capel, ICO Interim Executive Director - Regulatory Supervision, said:
“We reached our provisional findings on this investigation, and we issued a notice of intent to impose a monetary penalty on MediaLab on 10 September 2025.
“Our findings are provisional and the ICO will carefully consider any representations from MediaLab before taking a final decision whether to issue a monetary penalty.
“We have been clear that exiting the UK does not allow an organisation to avoid responsibility for any prior infringement of data protection law, and our investigation remains ongoing.
“This update has been provided to give clarity on our investigation, and we will not be providing any further detail at this time.
“Safeguarding children’s personal information is a key priority for the ICO and our Children’s code strategy outlines our key interventions in this area. Keeping children safe online is the responsibility of the companies offering online services to them and we will continue to hold them to account.”
Bah. I'm a Firefox user. So far. Though the government here (Australia) is bringing in its own Online Safety Act, so we'll see what happens.
Is there a way to use proton vpn, but just for Imgur somehow?I think most VPNs these days have browser extensions. I just installed ProtonVPN on Firefox and can see all the images via Denmark now![]()
Makes sense now.ICO has released a statement: https://ico.org.uk/about-the-ico/me...5/09/statement-update-on-imgur-investigation/
Looks like another potential reason why they blocked the UK, possibly to avoid a fine... which they can't escape from anyway.

Good luck to imgur. I hope more companies follow suit.
This is exactly what needs to happen. Every website hosted outside of the UK should follow suit.
