Sold 5090 On eBay - Buyer says its faulty

It's this very reason I wouldnt sell anything expensive on Ebay as full of scammers and they nearly always side with the buyer even if have proof like recording serials and videos of packing items.

Really started to kick off in the last mining craze where people would buy used GPU mine on it for a bit then return as faulty, acting like a free rental.

Once got burnt selling a Rampage V E10 and the guy trashed the socket and he returned saying not working and ebay sided with him despite pics of board and socket in pristine condition in the listing.

So just limit to old parts that only few hundred and would still would be wounded as more princlple of getting scammed then the monetary amount.

Find sections of the forums you like
And interact with them on a regular basis
 
Speaking of members market. I’ve lost access, I’m sure it’s down to needing a certain number of posts across a time period.

What was it again? 15 or something a month?

This. IMO it's just not worth the stress, hassle and worry selling expensive things on ebay. They can return it for 6 months if they pay via paypal, and don't even have to return the same item. The only thing they have to do is make sure the weight is similar, as this is usually recorded by the courier.

I sell my used components on MM (for 10-20% less than what they are worth on ebay) simply to avoid this nonsense, life is just too short to give any time or energy to degenerates.

i had a nearly new [bought new in november to do hte build while waiting for rdna 4 to arrive] 3060 12gb that i gave away to a friend rather than having to go through the hassle of basically paying someone to take it off my hands on ebay and end up paying for hte privelidge
ive sold 3 items on ebay in my life
all 3 of those items i ended paying money out to get rid of ie i ended with a minus amount of money and the item no longer being my posession
so in future id rather just put items in the bin rather than pay ebay to dispose of it for me lol

What I'd expect to happen, is that high value items are only purchased from private sellers with a lot of feedback, or else they will sell for A LOT less than their normal value.

Private sellers just can't afford to absorb the cost of dodgy returns like a large business can, so I don't think it is reasonable they're asked to offer that kind of service.

It wasn't so bad when sellers could leave feedback, because at least then you had an idea what you were getting into.

There are a lot of private sales that happen on this basis (outside of auction sites/marketplaces), sold as seen with no returns and they're still attractive enough to both parties.

God knows what your listings look like of you've been done 3 times from 3 listings, I have had 2 bad experiences in just under 1,000 sales

I agree entirely. You should also be able flag buyers up with high value items.

I don’t know if there’s a screw underneath the sticker. I bloody hope so or he could have just swapped the backplate onto a broken card or one with no GPU die.

Yeah could have done a multitude of things
Depending on skill level
Though someone who takes out vram and gpu dies
For example
They would be unlikely to go to a pc shop with it
They would have very high skill levels

You may still be looking at someone who has incorrectly used
A psu/hpwr adapter or something like that
So broke it in ignorance
Rather than some sort of malicious intended scam
Though if the end result is bad for you
Intent or not becomes irrelevant

Comes down to
If you get it back and test it not working
Is whatever they did repairable
And will you be forced to give them a refund regardless
And either have a paperweight gpu
Or have to pay a specialist for pcb level repair etc

What stage are you at now?
Have they sent it back?
Demanded a refund
Started a dispute etc
We can only speculate until it's back in
Your possession what's actually wrong with it

Actually I just watched my YouTube video. I reviewed it a few months ago. There is a strange security covering one one of the backplate screws but not underneath the sticker.

Kitgurus video shows the backplate so I can see this
