Many still give it a second thought, as it frequently crops up in conversations, even if it's just people complaining about 'muh freedumbs'.
We don't have much choice now, as nobody is going to do anything about it. However, that doesn't mean that, in years to come, we won't realise that we've completely mismanaged its long-term effects.
This forum is the only place I ever hear it mentioned to be fair despite travelling around for work, but I guess it depends on your industry and your own personal situation (i.e. health conditions, vulnerable relatives etc...). I drop in here to keep myself informed on what I believe to be a very edge case/small minority of people, but I could have course be wrong. I suppose if anyone gets the flu they may say "I wonder if it's covid?" now and focus on recovery (as much as possible if you're a family person you have responsibilities that don't wait for your to be healthy). I assume flu symptoms are similar?
Anyway the positive (if you can call it that) of all of this is people are able to self diagnose enough not to come into work if they feel rough. For me it's not so much about the spreading of a cold that bothers me (although that is appreciated), but just the lack of productivity and the unfairness of forcing someone to come into work when they're not at their best. Seems counter productive to me. Even if they're only 1/4 productive staying at home and doing the bare minimum it's better than nothing.
