over a year ago, I posted a pic on my fb after a clean my iron with the cooker scrapper... I was quite pleased with myself..

Then came along a load of my female friends saying to use paracetamol to clean it... I really thought they was "punk'in" me for a laugh, so I tagged a few of my scientists friends, who happen to be female too, wasn't trying to be sexist. It just happen that most of my friends on FB are female.

Anyway none of my scientists friends with proper PHd's in chemistry or/and biology had even heard of it nor could they explain why it would even remotely work.

So today, over a year later.. I thought I give it a try. A blow me over with a feather! it actually works...

Does anyone else have some wierd messed up tips for house chores?

A few years ago, I can remember knocking a lit candle onto the carpet. I looked on Google and was quite sceptical about using an iron and parcel paper to get it off the carpet. So you can imagine my delight when I tried it and found that the carpet was left absolutely spotless - it was as though the candle wax was never there in the first place.

Looked into it and it's because paracetemol, or acetaminophen, contains a phenol group which when heated on an iron is able to react with the synthetic polymers of melted fabric, so it's acting like a mild organic solvent.
