Stranger Things (Netflix)

The inbetweeners was a classic TV series and they were all in their mid 20's when they did that. Was still fantastic though. At least for me because it was all relatable.

I guess it is the reason why I absolutely love Stranger Things too. I grew up with the Goonies, Aliens and Terminator. Plus being a bit of a cross over geek/townie in my school years makes people like Steve Harrington very relatable too.

Out of all the crap that has been released in the past half decade. Stranger Things is a breath of fresh air in the industry even if it does take tropes from older franchises. It does them extremely well.
Yea…how many years between seasons? Also did one of their seasons end on a story continuing cliffhanger they have to continue from?

Personally, I see it as the best possible mash up of Spielberg's wonderment and Stephen King's horror/story telling. It totally grabbed and enthralled me from the opening sequence of the first episode. Nothing it the past, including the list you mentioned struck me in the same way, although I do accept that some of the later series were not as engaging.

But I detect that it is simply best to accept you take a different view and leave it like that

I agree with your post that it is a mash up of these things. It takes elements of dozens literally dozens and dozens of films tv shows and media mashes them up and repacakages for a new generation.
The fist series in particular felt almost like an homage.

But My beef was you said ‘genre defining’ my position is that this is simply untrue and or misinformed.

Also Thanks whoever for the victor meldrew picture that really advamces the discussion. Well done.

Most shows run off the boil after churning out season after season. I don't mind the wait as each season of ST was worth it. I'm glad they take the time to get it right.

(aside from punk Eleven story).

I also agree that the extended gap between series really hurts it, because we were following the story as seen from 11/12 yr olds initially, which has an inbuilt wonderment/naivety, and an age where there are subservient to parents and loads of people in authority over them etc, that just simply can't be maintained when the same characters are 20 or whatever

I'm going to start re-watching from season one to get ready for the final series - the only downside is that story line hasn't changed to keep pace with the actors growing up. In this case I think binge watching is going to be a lot more jarring than having it spread out over almost a decade

after the last season finished, i rewatched the whole show. i didn't notice the age jumps being an issue. i think best to binge it now as i bet this coming age jump will be the most jarring
