Running a Ryzen 5800x3d need a new GPU for upcoming bf6..

The 5800X3D is still a very good gaming CPU and seems able to feed reasonably high refresh gaming in BF6. I'd still have mine were it not for a couple of games I regularly play bumping into limits (Darktide and Helldivers 2, both on the same engine, which topped out lower than I'd like with that CPU-though it was still very playable in both titles).

GPU wise it's hard to call. The 9070 XT is better value than the 5070 Ti comparing the cheapest cards, with the latter only really making sense if you're very interested in RT performance in games with a heavy implementation. DLSS with the transformer model is slightly better than FSR4, but from what I've seen it's the kind of difference you'd forget once you start playing a game instead of just ogling the visuals.

As to whether you should buy one now or wait for the Super release? Tough to say. If the 6800 XT can tide you over then you could wait, but we just don't know what the price/performance will look like.
Thanks..i am not interested in RT but i want a very healthy fps, my gpu is not pathetic but still borderline any good for bf6. I have a feeling the rtx 9070xt would just be a stop gap card so hesitant to pull the trigger if i could get one of the better msi versions of the 5080 for around £1k i would probably go that route. Bit of a tough call atm.. if i hang on and just stick it out with my present card what's the point upgrading for a 6 month old game i have hammered when the super cards get launched.

The thing that makes the 5070Ti still worth the extra, is the massive back catalogue for DLSS3.X, due to Nvidia sponsoring 90% of games - there are hardly any FSR3/3.1 games in comparison, which is quite laughable considering how long ago FSR1/2 was, yet things like Resi4R still shipped with FSR1/2 :(

FSR4 doesn't seem to be making up for this in terms of historical support, just like it's predessor didn't :( and that will always be the case with the lack of AMD sponsored games.

I've no brand loyalty, but, I'd want to get the most out of my money, and having continual support for any new games and their tech, will always win, along with a juicy back catalogue of anything that I've missed.

It's very frustrating, as I'd love to get something mega, such as a RX 9950XTX (if one were to exist)

For balance though, a 9070XT is still an incredible card, but I don't like having to sacrafise things for the sake of say another £100-150, if it buys me a longer lifespan with it.

It seems the price of the 9070xt is coming down. I am not interested in back catalogue games i don't play many to be honest..bf a flight sim and a little HLL my radeon 6800xt works fine with them but the new monitor gives me cause for concern with bf6 i want very good fps. I may buy a 9070xt as a stop gap card i might get around £250-£300 for my asus rog liquid cooled 6800xt so i could possibly pick one up for an additional £400 which isn't bad. If next year i feel the need i could perhaps get a 5080 super something like that.

cheers

I played the bf6 playtest with 5800x and 3070 and it was kind of miserable especially having 165hz gsync monitor. I bought a new 5070 ti this week ready for BF6 but now I'm afraid my 5800x is going to hold me back. i loaded up bf1 and bfv and my gpu usage sits around 30-40% and my cpu reaches 60%. will bf6 be somewhat similar? am i going to lose a lot of performance due to this 5800x?

I've not seen any tests using a 5800X, but considering the usual delta between it and the X3D counterpart I think you'll likely be fine on a 165Hz display.

Well i ordered an Asus Tuff gaming rx9070xt as its dropped to a good price now...my ultrawide monitor can do 240htz but a pipe dream with this card :D just not willing to spend double the price for an rtx5080 or wait 6 months for a super card and then have the agony of Nvidia price gouging yet again. Paid £659 inc delivery and i traded my old monitor in so card was £550  see how it goes after much praise for the card on this fine forum

Thanks all

Let us know how you get on.

Ok i installed the card and it s looking good at stock all temps including hotspot are almost identical. I have seen memory temps on these cards running around 83degrees mine is under 60degrees. Anyway hope these images work always have bother posting them on here. Are these results to be expected ? If i do the -30 power limit the memory is around 56degrees hotspot 58degrees.

is it stable with -160mv undervolt like that?
dont think ive tried 3 figures on mine yet think 95mv is the most ive gone on mine so far
just out of interest lol i think mine could be undervolted a fair bit more im at -45mv atm for general daily usage web surfing and music production
i think mine would handle 3 figures actually i should try it
just 160 is the highest i think ive seen so was just wondering if it is stable if so im guessing your sillicone is pretty good
either way looks good to me

I wonder if you have Samsung memory instead of Hynix ? memory temps are really good :)

hynix in mine lol i did check a while ago

i havnt found mine unstable with the undervolt i just havnt actually tried an aggressive undervolt like that before so just interested in how it handled it
I will probably just try it on mine see what happens if i set -120mv or -150mv or something probably crash but would be interesting to see what it does lol

I am not saying its stable for everyday use i was just playing about running 3dmark and trying to increase scores. I would not attempt to run a -160mv undervolt for gaming i think i would be asking for trouble. For running games i have driver set with a voltage offset of -100 with power limit at -5 and memory 2600mhz and it seems happy with that. Yes the card has samsung memory reported in gpuz. Card is very quiet idle temps even.. great card so far.

fair lol i did wonder
ive been way over conservative with my udervolt i should try see if i can go further
enjoy your new card :-) im still loving mine and ive had her 5 months i think now

I know a lot of folks have been saying 9070XT and that's a solid choice (heck I have one myself).

But don't overlook the 9070 non-XT either, especially if there's good deals under £500. The performance I've witnessed with my own eyes is close enough to the XT. And all while in a smaller/lighter/less power hungry package. I was honestly impressed seeing how it performed in the latest games. Most importantly it has 16GB VRAM.

Though if you see a 9070XT well under £600, that's a good deal. Just harder to find at that price atm. I think there's Powercolour Reaper 9070XTs closer to launch MSRP price if you look around.
