XBOX Gamepass Ultimate conversion is back for £1

So with all the changes, I'm sure there are quite a few of us looking to top our subscriptions up to the maximum we can, before there are no cheaper options left at all and before the discounted options completely disappear.

Am I right in thinking 3 years is the maximum you can have stacked on your account now?
What's the cheapest current way to extend an existing subscription? 3 Month GPU codes from CDKeys/Loaded?

Interested in this too, mine runs until May 2026 and would like to max it out as cheap as possible now.

I think I have 5 months left of Ultimate which I got with 12 months of Core and then converting it. Is this still the best way to go for the time being?

Is the ratio still 2:1?

You can get 3 months code from ShopTo for £34, works out to £11.33 a month. How much does it work out at when you do the current conversation?

Gone are the days when I did 3 years worth for £90. Now the cheapest way to get a year is like £130.

I was going to downgrade to core, but after it demanded that I pay my first month straight away even though at the time I had an active ultimate subscription and the site stated that I wouldn't be charged until my ultimate subscription ended, I decided to just turn off auto renew and let the ultimate subscription expire before moving to core, however, I found out after my ultimate subscription has expired that Genshin impact and Zenless Zone Zero (which are free to play games) are locked behind the gamepass paywall I've just decided to not bother since I didn't want to fund their greed and then this happened which I see more as them copying what sony did with PS+.

It isn't going to make me come back since you don't need PS+ to play any free to play game, nor do you need it to play FFXIV if you're not on the free trial.

I kinda see the current discounted rate of £11/12 each a month for me and the wife as tolerable, there's a lot of value in the newer games which get added, and there's value in having the same games added to both our accounts for multiplayer. We both easily got a few years worth (of the admittedly cheaper prior subs) of value out of Darktide and a few other games we both sunk a lot of hours into; so I was already sold on the value of the subscription; BUT, as a long term Gamepass/Xbox Live Gold, I think they've really lost touch with reality a bit with this 50% price jump.

Long term I can probably stomach a bit more than £10 a month each (and I hate saying that as I know they read social media), but I could have stomached the old £14.99 point somewhat long-term if the discounts had gone away; but it really doesn't feel like they've added anywhere near enough (especially given the projects they've killed recently) to justify the frankly massive jump to £23 a month; which if I had to pay that would be about £50 a month for me and the wife.

Also feels very shortsighted because they sold a lot of Xbox Series X and S consoles, and I suspect a decent number of those were bought as Gamepass units. You burn those players; they're not going to come back to buy future hardware.

Ended up stacking myself and the wife's accounts up to the 3 year mark last night, via Shopto, as we are both part way through subscriptions. It was a few hundred quid I didn't really want to spend right now, at the same time, I think if I left it for another year or two until our subs ended, I'd likely regret it given the price rises now, let alone what may have happened in the next year to 18 months.
Managed to do it via Shopto, so essentially at ~ £11 a month; at that price I can 100% justify the service; I just dont think I could at more than double that.

What’s the equivalent Sony PlayStation cost vs Xbox?

PlayStation have three plans (similar to this new Xbox Game Pass tiering/naming). £119 per year as @Raymond Lin mentioned, although all the plans are more expensive if you pay monthly, so £13.49 for the most expensive option. Whilst PS Plus Premium does have cloud streaming it doesn't include PC versions, or day-and-date games. So Sony first-party games like TLOU2 Remastered are always a few years after their initial release and they don't stay on the service permanently like Game Pass. You do get the odd indie like, i.e. Stray - which is day-and-date on PS+ Extra/Premium but these are less common than Game Pass. Personally I'd say Game Pass has always been better up until this point.

Also interestingly Sony charge for cloud saves, unlike Microsoft where I believe those are still free on Xbox.

Not sure if it's equivalent but the most expensive one is £119 for a year. So about £10 a month. No doubt this Xbox price increase will give Sony licence to justffy an increase on their end too.

Don't give them ideas! I think we have already had a price increase on PlayStation Plus this year.

I've just got 4x 3 month code and chucked them on (the first 2 gave me an extra month each as I switched between turning recurring bills on and off again. That gets me to May 2027, I may grab another 5 and thats me sorted to August 2028. Monzo flexing it so spreading it out slightly!

I cancelled Game Pass quite some time ago and I certainly won't be back any time soon. Well, ever tbh. The price will only go up...

I've topped up till 2028.

Hard to justify the cost at £23 a month but I certainly get a lot out of it at £11 a month.

Nowhere near as good as my first 3 years for £70 but that was never going to be sustainable was it?
