Premium Bonds - If you post to say how much you've won, please also say how much you have invested.

I need to sack this off, £750 return on £50k, so far this year... crap.
Im in the same boat . Had a far better return last year on half the holdings. You would have thought having max bonds would garuntee at the very least a few smaller prizes each month. I can see given the amount of peoople with Max holdings ( 1.2 Million according to Google ) that the upper limit could be raised !

I have just been lookin at Martin Leiws guise to PB - it really is for dreamers I suppose given the odds !

1 Million pound prize chance is 1 in 2,651,879.000 !

Where else are you going to put your money if you dont want to be taxed on it? and you have used your ISA allowances..

Sweet FA again this month, but I only have ~£6k in.

TBH I only really use it as it's easy access & the interest I'd gain from a savings account would be fairly minimal, but there's a chance of a better return. I've got a larger pot (for longer term savings) in a stock & shares, which is showing a ~20% rate of return since I opened it at the beginning of the year.

This, tbh. if you've not used your full ISA allowance, premium bonds just don't make a lot of sense. Put the money in an all world ETF within a stocks and shares ISA and you'll wazz all over the returns from premium bonds.

Wife and I got 175 and 100 this month respectively off 2 pots of 50k. Sadly as fun as this has been the money is now coming out of Premium bonds so we'll only have about 13k left in the one premium bonds. Naturally my wifes not mine

I'm technically beating the statistics on a full holding of premium bonds, but I've also got 40k in an all world ETF and it's smashing it out of the park in comparison to premium bonds.. I'm about 8% up in a fuzzy comparison to just under 4% on the premium bonds.

The all world etf is this stocks and shares ISA ? If it is I assume you accumulated the 40k over 2 years (ISA allowance )?

yes I *technically* put £20k in the previous tax year, and another 20k in the current tax year.

In reality what I did was put 20k in late march 2025, and another 20k in the new tax year, after April 6th? so I pretty much put £40k in all at once in reality, give or take a week or two.

As im nearing the protection limit on my cash ISA I have 62k in and maxed out this year in june. And the rates Are only 3.85% I'm thiking of doing the etf setup stocks and shares ISA. I would have to wait till April though
:(

Then I would have to build up and put 20k in .with the following year being 40 k

If your cash ISA is a 'flexible' ISA and theres £62k in it, you could port, say £20K or £30k into a stocks and shares ISA right now if you wanted to.

It has to be an 'ISA to ISA' direct transfer though, if you pull the money out and pay it into your current account or whatever, it could cause you issues.

The money has to remain inside an 'ISA wrapper' to perserve its tax free staus.
