Sold 5090 On eBay - Buyer says its faulty

Not from eBay but cannot say where from.
If it's a river place, I have to say recently they became very odd - their own delivery service lost some of my parcels (it clearly shows on tracking as not delivered) and yet upon asking their support if they can check what's going on and support saying they can just offer refund, I got automated emails demanding I send my gov. issued ID to them for verification otherwise no refunds - as if I wanted to scam them for few small items worth £13 in summary after spending thousands there... Never had such problems with OCUK (though they tend not to lose parcels either). :)

1. Mobile caravan site address. I did ring up the owner of the site who knew the buyer and said he’d been there for a long while as he worked locally.

Great news that you got it back and it’s working.

Wherever you sell maybe try collection only to prevent issues like this.

Good luck with what you decide to do.

I wouldn't even bother selling it to that person afterwards... Buying luxury products whilst living in a caravan? Big red flag, sale cancelled instantly.

Not surprised here, with connection to the above.

Second red flag for me that would instantly cancel the sale.

Do all these checks beforehand and just don't sell to dodgy people? If your instinct tells you something's not right - just walk away instantly. Your instinct is a well evolved mechanism, it knows better.

It’s true that I was uncomfortable about the address but in also did some due diligence afterwards.

The feedback wasn’t obvious. It said something like 500 and 100%. The lone incident was a few years ago and I had to go through 5 pages to find it.

These are things I wouldn’t do again.

That's just when your logical thinking overrides instinct. Again, millions of years of evolution, don't fight it, listen to it. :)

Yeah, with expensive product, I'd always take my time and review everything carefully first. It's not 100% safe(nothing ever is), but it does filter a lot of potentially bad situations. Most importantly, lessons learned without a big loss. :)

What a shame you've had a bad experience.
I sold something a few months ago, evri lost it. Ebay refunded both me and the buyer.
Then the item turned up a couple of weeks later :p
It's currently been sat in an evri delivery locker for 3 months waiting for them to return it to me like they keep telling the seller they will.
What's the score here then? If Evri one day deliver it back to you, do you bag a free item?
Glad OP got it sorted, better than my last outcome with Fleabay!

Unfortunately, feedback and reviews aren't as reliable as they once were anymore.

Amazon is a prime example and probably the worst I can think of in terms of a mainstream company, although Ebay is almost as bad.

It's not difficult to flood "positive" reviews in fake ways, or worse offer paid positive reviews for products. Then in the case of Amazon where they lump reviews into chunks for different products, you think you're buying a five star rated 1tb SSD but in reality 90% of the reviews are for a totally different range with the same basic naming scheme.

We're living in a bit of an online nightmare fuel period where due diligence barely works for second hand sales.

I wouldn't even sell in person with cash anymore unless I could be arsed to buy a counterfeit detector and trusted the thing to work.

Wow suspenseful thread reading pages and pages of people wanting an update !

Glad it worked out for OP, now have to wonder what was the buyers game just buyers remorse or betweeen them and the shop couldnt get it posting.

I’ve put it on another common platform saying it’s collection only. I’m only accepting direct bank transfer of payment. Some interest. Some Chinese guy from London wants to see it working. I’ve said he can come and see it but of course I need to see a confirmed payment before he can take it.

Plus side is that they often have the money and they are happy to pay. The minus is that they are very good at scamming people too, so be careful.

That's safer method but it's not fool proof either - they can always dispute transfer as fraud etc. later. Sure, bank will investigate validity of it first but nothing is ever 100% clear. Same as cash in hand. Just keep your eyes open. :) And it never hurts to actually sign simple sales contract by both parties (easy to find online examples) to be sure.

I listed my iPhone on there a few years ago and some guy turned up with forged notes.

He left faster than I’ve known anyone ever leave after I told him.

This should be safer. I’m used to people changing their mind on there so asked him to contact me today if he’s still interested. No contact as of yet.

As I edited earlier post but bit late - it never hurts to actually sign a simple sales contract either, as then you have evidence it actually was sold and it wasn't mistaken money transfer etc. that they could later dispute. Few sentences are more than enough in such, with signatures.

Good idea.
