Seems my Pixel 4XL which has been a rock (even though its an old phone) and has no further security updates, but has been solid, is maybe finally getting some issues.

The battery meter is not functioning, which is a known bug, however my phone is out of warrenty and i cant have the extended warrenty fix for this as it doesnt qualify

Maybe new phone time.

Anyone know any fixes (perm) for this battery meter issue? i cant see how much charge is on the phone battery

The usual soft reset (hold down power button for 10 seconds whilst it does a soft reset, maybe works 4 times out of 10, however, as soon as you plug a charger in, the battery meter faults again and you cant read how much charge is on the phone.

Im looking at possibly another pixel phone. I dont really want to go on to a £30 a month contract though, im currently sim only and paying £11 a month

I suspect it's new phone time.

Keep your current sim deal and buy a new phone outright?
Google currently got deals on for the previous pixel, or you can find older models on eBay or maybe the members market (not looked so don't know for sure)

Yeh I will have a look around,

Pixel phones have been great for me,

I came from a history over the last 10 years of

Google Nexus

Pixel 2XL

Pixel 4XL

So would ideally like another google based model.

I am not clued up on the recent pixels, but could have a look.

I will have to see how much handset prices are vs contract

Just buy a new pixel outright, be easier than going into contract and you can keep your same SIM deal, although Sims have changed now too, you might need a new type of SIM.

Any pixel 8 and above will be a big step up.

I am on to EE at the moment, it seems they dont have any pixel 8s in stock and dont know if they will be getting a replishment, the contract price for these would normally be

Pixel 8 pro - monthly contract - £32.40 a month - £30 phone upfront cost

Pixel 9a - monthly contract - £41 a month - £50 upfront cost

Pixel 10 - monthly contract - £65 a month - £30 upfront

i have no interest in paying more than £33 a month for a contract

EE - said they are no longer providing pixel 8 pro phones.

Considered buying outright from Google or car phone warehouse? HotUKDeals?

Initial outlay but no change of SIM deal.

I would not recommend paying monthly at those costs.

As said in the other thread, its doable, but shelling out £500 for a handset is something i could have done without for the moment, as i need to sort out a service on car, plus rear brake discs and pads, plus i need to go away

i would have to see,

if i can sort out a pixel 8 or pixel 9 handset for £350 or maybe at a stretch £400, this would be better than £500 or £550

Just going back to the fault on the 4xl

Specifically around the battery meter known issue. This started showing signs around 2 weeks ago , then the battery stopped charging today completely .

However I this evening i have been trying a few things. It seems to charge when you power off the phone. Hold down the power button and then volume down to get to the fastboot mode

It seems to be charging when it’s in this mode

Is there something i can reset ? Or recover from here ? If it boots in to the android phone os is will just say usb-c connected not charging

Is this really a hardware issue? Seems more software to me?

Before this issue 2 weeks ago , my phone would happily hold a charge for over a day and would charge normally

She lives

Currently still browsing using a factory reset 4xl which sometimes randomly reboots on the odd occasion but not done it it a while

Does not seem to have battery meter errors and shows %

But won't charge when it's booted in to android and cable plugged in

But does charge if you turn it off and the hold the power button and vol down to go in to the boot menu, and let it charge up. Battery lasts quite a bit on high %

No idea if it will somehow fix itself or even though I have a new phone coming , shall I try and do a DIY battery replacement on it for £20 is it ? Or just keep it as a spare but have to charge via the boot menu.
