Yea it was mentioned above that they could cause an issue...plus I can just control it from the speakers...Ah sensible choice to omit the inline volume control - often the source of problems. Enjoy!

I currently have 2 PCs connected to one monitor and both send sound to the monitor via dp and hdmi cables. I then have a cable from the headphone out port of the monitor to a mini amp. The sound automatically switches depending on which PC is active on the monitor.
This does mean the sound is coming through the GPUs in both cases instead of the motherboard sound. I don't know whether there is any difference in quality between the GPU and MB sound?
Re the splitter i linked on page 1.
Its about the size of a.matchbox, works perfectly for the job. No noticeable issues with the sound out put.
